Hello Mama's and Mama's to be. I am new to this group. Due June 26th I was wondering if any of you have already signed up for any classes and if so where? I am assuming you are all from around the baltimore area? Thanks. Happy new year!
Welcome and congratulations! June 26 is my brother's birthday :0)
I took a breastfeeding class at Upper Chesapeake (in Bel Air) and was disappointed. I got more out of the book I read on breastfeeding. I didn't have time to take more, and I thought bf'ing would be more helpful. I ended up with a c/s and I do feel if I had taken a birthing class it could possibly have been avoided, so I recommend taking a birthing class to everyone. I have heard great things about Bradley method classes, but don't know where they are in this area. Good luck!
I took my hospital based class which I don't recommend (maybe it was just my hospital - which was pretty bad experience overall). Women can have fine births no matter what, but I ended up with a c-section that could have totally been prevented had I had more information on natural childbirth. Plus the epidural didn't work, so learning how to cope with pain would have been more helpful then learning typical hospital procedures, but I guess it depends on the hospital too.
Right now I am doing home study hypnobabies course and using a doula. I considered bradley but it was hard to find classes that worked with DH's schedule.
Welcome. I am due in June too, just a few weeks ahead of you!
My DH and I will be taking all our classes (birth, breastfeeding, etc) at GBMC mostly because our OB is located on the medical campus and we plan on delivering there! I am also doing way more reading than is probably necessary but it helps me to feel clam and informed...I am sure it would add to the stress for others!

Welcome & Congrats! I'm due July 3rd I haven't taken any classes yet but plan to at St. Joe's, where I will be delivering. Do you know what hospital you will deliver at? They should be able to provide you with some info. I'm still looking into things myself.

I took Bradley classes and I HIGHLY recommend them to everyone. I took them with Jessica Groves (do a google search for Trusting Our Bodies). She is located near Westminster but it honestly was well worth the drive from my home in AA county. (There are other people that offer the classes too). I also recommend hiring a doula as well. I took my bf class at Special Beginnings as well as the infant care class. They are both $10 ea for people who aren't delivering there.

I was the same way! I found Dr. Marsden Wagner's book called Creating Your Birth Plan very informative and helpful.
I took the breastfeeding class and hospital tour at AAMC. The most important thing I learned at the breastfeeding class was what a good latch looks like, could have been done in 15 minutes. I liked the tour though.
Good luck, I would check out the hospital wherever you are delivering.
We took the childbirth class (9 hours!) all day at the hospital and thought the breathing techs and negative pressure we practiced were well worth it....used those a lot when in labor! However, I am sure you can you tube the same thing. We also took infant and child CPR and first aid and I would highly rec doing that.
