Trouble TTC

Insurance question update

Thanks to all those that responded to my post yesterday.  I heard back from the lady at my RE today.  I had to register with Aetna for fertility treatments.  Weird but ok I guess.  The questions felt ridiculous since I'm so far along in the process though.  After the first few I just told her where I was in the process since it would take a lot less time that way.  Convo went a little something like this:

Question 1: Do you have a male partner in which you are trying to conceive a child with (word for word-- and I almost said no I have a female partner but we have donor sperm... why did they specify male??)

Question 2&3:  Do you have regular periods (no), when did your last period start (last week)

Question 4: how long have you been trying to conceive?  (told her 2 years since I went off BCP's over 2 yrs ago but technically it's only been 21 months:P)

Question 5, 6, 7:  Have you ever had bloodwork done on day 2-3 of your cycle (yes), has your husband been tested (yes) are you seeing a fertility specialist??? (yes)

And thats when I stopped her and just said look, I've done 6 IUI's, numerous TI cycles and none of it worked so now I want to do IVF at the end of this month.  After going through everything she said it should be fine (timeline wise for approval) and that I have more than enough evidence that IVF is a legit next step (go me:P)... since they'd rather go the less expensive route first.  So.. pending getting results sent in from my dr.... I'm approved!:)  Easier than anticipated and while the call wasn't that bad... just sucked to have to go through it all.

Thanks again and I'm sorry to you guys that have to get re-referred every 3 months... SO irritating!

There are actually several women on these boards that are either with another female or on their own. In either case, they are using sperm donors.

Glad to hear that you are getting approved. Best of luck!

I know, I think thats why I was so put off by it.  But I realized it was probably more of a technical thing of whether or not we'd need fertility treatments vs. trying naturally without help.  Just a weird way to phrase it I guess.

Thanks!  I hope so too:)  It's expensive insurance but still less than what we'd pay for an IVF cycle and we get 4 covered in my lifetime with it.  I think its about $300 a month for both DH and I... this year we paid like $180 a month (got 6 IUI's covered though which was awesome).  I know we're definitely lucky so I'm not complaining one bit about the jump in cost of insurance.
