Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Am I missing something? - re: Soothies

DS can't seem to keep a Soothie pacifier in his mouth. He prefers them, I can tell, but he can't keep them in his mouth. He can keep NUKs in his mouth, but I can tell he doesn't like them much.

Is there something I'm missing with the Soothie? Can other babies keep it in their mouths (withOUT mama holding it for them)?

  • My DS can't either but they are the only ones he will use right now. Its hard when he fusses cause it falls out.

  • I usually have to hold it for just a few seconds when I first put it in her mouth so she can get a good suck going, but she's fine after that.

  • I am having the same problem....at this exact time actually.  I have to get up every like 30 seconds to put it back in her mouth!
  • Sounds like you might be a good candidate for the Wubbanub.
  • I just posted about this below--but you may want to try the Gumdrop Pacifier.  Landon was having a hard time with MAM and Soothie but the Gumdrop worked great.  You could tell that he preferred the Soothie but we just couldn't get it to stay in his mouth and I think it was because of the large circle shape.  Gumdrop Pacifiers are made out of the same material and have a very similar nipple shape but they aren't shaped into a big circle like the Soothie.  I think that they just started selling them at BRU but if not, I ordered ours from Amazon.
  • DD is only 8 days old but she's been holding them in her mouth ever since she was born. We think it's because she used to suck her fingers and now with the mittens, she can't so she just has her hands in that area. We took pics of it last week when she was born bc it was just so cute! Nevertheless, we would definitely have this problem if it wasn't for her "holding" it.

Interesting!! I'll try it. We have two from the hospital but I liked the teal color of the soothie better, so I didnt even think to try the orange gumdrop. Thanks :)

Our Landon prefers the Gumdrop too, but can't keep them in his mouth either...
