What to all pack in hospital bags for csection???

Just curious to see what everyone is all packing for the hospital bag those that are having a csection....

Re: What to all pack in hospital bags for csection???

  • I had mine a little over two weeks ago and my bag was packed no differently...Don't worry about pajamas and underwear b/c the mesh underwear and the gowns are A LOT more comfortable b/c they don't rest on your incision.  If your hospital has them get a belly binder....having the pressure on the incision really helped and I'm still wearing mine.

Bring something comfortable to wear home that won't irritate your incision...I wore regular comfy  pants b/c the belly binder covered my incision so I didn't have to worry about my pants rubbing it.  I took a few pair of the mesh underwear home and wore them for the first week or so.

    Good luck!

  • I just had my second section on Friday. Here is what I packed.

    • Going home outfit for myself and DD's
    • Picture outfit for DD's
    • Extra pair of lounge pants and shirt
    • Slippers
    • Pillow & Extra Blanket
    • Toiletries - the hospital will provide, but I like my own.
    • Cell Phone Charger
    • Laptop
    • Camera
    • Then DH packed his bag himself

My section was on Friday. I wore the gowns on Friday & Saturday. On Sunday, I changed into lounge wear. I feel more comfortable walking the halls in my own clothes versus the gowns. I didn't pack any underwear and just wore the mesh underwear and brought several pairs home. I wore nursing tanks instead of a bra.

I did wear slipper socks in bed and used my own pillow and extra blanket in the bed for when sleeping at night. It just made me more comfortable.

  • I didn't realize I was going to have a csection, but I'll say that my granny panties were awesome!  I also brought some fold over yoga pants that felt really good.  I had minimal pain, but the nurses suggested alternating tylenol and ibuprofen every 2 hours - I think it helped manage the pain.  That's all I've been taking since, but my OB did send me home with a script for vicodin.

My other advice is to get out of bed as soon as they let you.  Honestly, my butt hurts more than anything from sitting/lying in bed so long.

ETA: I packed other toiletries etc too, but these are the things that were most helpful for recovering from a c/s.  If you plan to breastfed I would recommend at least a nursing tank.  Target has good ones.

  • I haven't had mine yet (going tomorrow) but I like the suggestions on PP. Especially b/c they've been there done that!

I will bring the Boppy, grannie panties, night gowns (I got as gifts but they are nice and if they get ruined then they get ruined). Along with the other regular stuff too.

  • I had nothing with me when I had my c-section (it was an emergency) and I lived in the hospital gowns and mesh undies. You shiver and sweat and I wouldn't want to be wearing my own pjs given the amount of fluids coming out of everywhere imaginable.

I had DH go home and get my my nursing pillow, gripper socks (which got ruined after they took out my catheter), slippers, toothpaste, toothbrush, hair brush, comb, scrunchies, shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, towels from home, pillows (use your own, the hospital ones suck), hand sanitizer from Bath and Body Works, body lotion (to get rid of the hospital smell), baby book, cell phone, laptop, chargers for all electronics, outift for LO, nursing bra, breast pads (you will leak a bit), super comfy outfit to wear home (I wore a light dress home).

Don't forget that due to the large amounts of IV fluids given, you will be extremely swollen in your lower extremeties, so you will need a roomy pair of shoes (can't emphasize that enough). I went home wearing my slippers because nothing I had brought with me would fit my ballooned feet. Also, bring neosporin with you because you may get a tape burn from when they remove your bandages ( had tape burns on my right side and it hurts more than the incision) and don't forget to bring your own gas pills. The ones they give you at the hospital suck and I used Phazyme gas pills. They want you to pass as much gas as possible before you are able to eat solid foods and will make you walk the halls to get things moving. Believe me it will hurt and you will be cursing as you try to move an inch, but you have to get moving to being feeling better.

  • I had an unexpected c-section with DS.  All I wanted that I didn't have was a big towel from home (shivering/shaking after a shower is NOT comfortable), and really giant pants to wear so there was no pressure on the incision.  DH ended up bringing me a pair of his old scrubs to wear home.
  • I loved having a long fuzzy robe, slippers, and a comfy blanket/pillow from home. I wouldnt bring my own pjs because they can get ruined, plus they check your incision/bleeding so often that it would be a pain to have pants on. I just wore the hospital gown instead and threw the robe on when I was walking the halls/had visitors.
