I have the medela freestyle, and while it an arm and a leg, its the best for me and my work situation. I can pump anywhere because it doesn't need to be plugged in. I also enjoy the timer. I got it from https://www.addalittlelove.com/. It was by far the cheapest place I was able to find it!

I have the Lansinoh Double Affinity - it worked fine while I was still pumping at work, and I never had any complaints about it. It's the same as the Ameda Purely Yours, which is highly recommended (so the Lansinoh is also highly recommended since they're the same thing, just marketed under two names), and costs WAYYYYY less than the ever-popular Medela PISA (which was my other top contender when we were shopping for a pump). We also really liked the fact that the Lansinoh is a closed system, as opposed to the Medela's open system, meaning that milk cannot get into the tubing and whatnot - it seemed cleaner to DH and me.
I have the ameda purely yours ditto what thepastor's wife said, the only issue with the Lansinoh pump is that I *think* you can't change the horns for different sizes which can be an issue if you have a larger chest or are super engorged. Some women always need the larger size flange (like me) but some are OK with the standard 24-25 mm. That's the reason I went with the Ameda over the Lansinoh.
I got mine for $135 on drugstore.com on a good sale, Amazon normally has the pump only for around $160. BRU has it with the backpack, larger flanges and cooler bag for $299 (They call it the Ultra package) which is the biggest rip off ever.
Also I delivered at GBMC and they had Ameda pumps so the accessory pack was given to me in the hospital and billed to insurance which was super helpful knowing how to use everything and having an extra set right from the get go.
I know a lot of people tout the Medela but I think it's just that they are the most advertised and that's why so many people use them. The breastfeeding board on the bump had lots of women that switched from the PIS to Ameda due to issues with the Medela pumps, they also have amazing customer service according to what I've heard.

The Medela Pump in Style Advanced, I have the shoulder bag. If you are planning on using it frequently and for a long time, you do want to invest money in it. I got a manual pump for an emergency situation on an airplane and it didn't work at all. I made it to 10 months BFing, working for 6 and pumping frequently at work, with the Medela PISA. I might hold off and get one after the baby is born, if by chance there are circumstances in which you can't BF you don't want to have spent the $. I got mine about a week after DS was born and we knew we could continue BFing and also so I could start my freezer stash.

This. I ended up exclusively pumping for the first 5 weeks due to latch issues and there's no way I could have kept it up without a Medela or something similarly heavy duty. It'll be getting a lot of use when I'm back to work, too. You might want to hold off to see what your needs are - but if you end up needing something really powerful I'd definitely recommend this one or the PISA.

Ditto all of this exactly.
And I delivered at Sinai and they use Medela pumps there and I got their accessories, lol.
Happy Birthday, little man. We love you so much!

Thanks guys-it sounds like i should probably wait then until I find out what I am really going to need. I don't want to spend the money if the baby ends up not feeding or maybe I won't be able to breast feed! Thanks for the recs...it sounds like if I do find myself needing to pump it's worth the money..

I used an AMEDA that I rented from the hospital while DD was in the NICU. It worked great.
