Registry question (about bottles)

Did you guys register for bottles? I'm hoping to BF for a while, but planning to also pump and use bottles sometimes so DH can help with feedings and my mom could babysit if need be. I don't want to introduce a bottle for a few weeks, though, until breastfeeding is established and I have a good supply going.

I *want* to register for bottles, but it seems like babies (and moms) have strong preferences for which types of bottles/nipples they prefer. How would I ever know what kind to register for? Also, I wouldn't know how many to register for and what sort of accessories are truly necessary (i.e. sanitizers, bottle brushes, drying racks).I really don't want to register for things that i end up not liking or using.

What did you guys do?

I'm stumped by this, too, and like you don't really want to register/purchase something we're not going to use for whatever reason.

I ended up registering for an Avent starter set that includes a couple bottles each of 2 different sizes, a brush, a sterilizer and warmer. But then you read the BRU comments and people complain the bottles leak; others rave about them and say you just have not over-tighten them. I looked at the Tommee Tippee, which are supposed to be so good, but people have their complaints about those, too. It seems like, with all these baby gear/product items, some people LOVE the thing and can't live without it and others just despise it. I've kind of resigned myself to just sticking with this set I registered for and hope for the best. I'm not sure there's much else I can do until I start actually using the bottles with him.

I just asked this question yesterday on my month board, because I had the same concern. The general consensus was to register for/buy 2-3 bottles of a few brands you want to try, but to keep the receipts/gift receipts and don't unwrap them until you use them, in case the first brand works. Baby will decide from there.

I registered for Dr. Brown's bottles, brush and diswasher basket. I got a few. But not a ton. Which was ok. Because what happened for me was this: I BF and pumped for an extra stash. I primarily used the Medela bottles that you pump directly into. I used those for the first 3-4 months. But I only needed them rarely. Then we transitioned to Dr. Brown's and had no problems. So my rec. is if you plan to BF, register for the Medela bottles, nipples, etc. And then test bottles later.

No. I only bought a couple of the playtex bottles to see if DS liked them (he did) and then stocked up when I quit BFing.

Plus, by the end of my pg I was chomping at the bit to "do something" so I bought some of the minor little things like bottles, nipples, pacifiers, etc.

ETA: I didn't buy a sterilizer or bottle warmer but I did get the dishwasher caddy and bottle brush (especially with the nipple brush).

FWIW-We used the playtex drop ins (he liked them and they're super easy to clean) but I didn't use the latex nipples (they come with this one-it's brown), I bought the silicone nipples (clear) instead. Buy a few extra Size 1's so you always have clean nipples on hand (that's what she said -bah dum bum)

For me personally, I asked around for people I know and what bottle brand they used (the general consensus was Dr. Brown's), and then I checked out the reviews of bottles on the BRU websites to see what other people said as well. I ended up registering exclusively for Dr. Brown's bottles/accessories. Most bottle brands have what they call a "newborn feeding set" so if you do something like that then it should include enough bottles to start you off and whatever other accessories you may need with them. I got the bottle brushes, bottle warmer, bottle drying rack and dishwasher basket as well...figured why not make it the easiest I can possibly make it on myself. I know that technically I probably didn't need all that stuff, but it can't hurt!

My plan is to EBF, but we registered for a couple bottles just in case. I think we ended up with 2-3 different brands of 4 oz. bottles.

I did a lot of research on this before I even got my BFP just because I am a lunatic and the general consensus was Dr. Brown's are well liked by most babies. DH and I try to be as green as we can so we will probably get the glass ones but the plastic ones have great reviews too.

ETA: I was just discussing this with a friend and she said the drying rack is a must have, so much easier than just using a regular drying rack. She mostly hand washes the bottles but whenever she's doing a load in the dishwasher she puts the bottles in there to extra sanitize them, and for that she uses dishwasher baskets.

After working in the infant room at a daycare for 3 years and using many differednt bottles everyday,I bought/registered for playtex drop ins with DD, she loved them and I loved how much easier they were to clean. I had the bottles, bottle warmer, bottle/nipple brush, and dishwashing rack. I recommend buying extra silicone nipples like PP said, its always nice to have extra on hand. We planon using the same for LO

My pump came with bottles, which LO did fine with, so that's all we used at first for the occasional bottle. Now that I'm going back to work we bought more. The drying rack, dishwasher baskets, and bottle brush are very helpful for cleaning. We do not use a bottle warmer- warm water in whatever container is convenient works just fine.

Oh bottles...bottles, bottles, bottles. Alright first I was pumping and the hospital gave me some 2.5 oz Medela collection bottles along with the pump I rented. I got more of these at Target also. I used the Similac slow flow nipples they provided also. I used these for the first 2 weeks-ish, then I started pumping into the Drop-Ins pump system and using the 4 oz drop ins. Those were fine just a waste of time to me because I wash the whole bottle every time not just the ring and nipple (I'm paranoid about milk splashing on the bottle itself. Then when I started FF, I went to the Evenflo Purely Comfi, those have been pretty good but after a while Jax decided he really didn't like the nipples that much, but he liked the Similac infant nipple and they fit so we use the the Evenflo bottle with a Similac nipple. I've tried the Avent bottles (11oz ones) because the powder formula mixes up better in the bigger bottles where it has more room to slosh around. But again Jax didn't seem to like the nipples.

So in conclusion I'm on the look out for a bottle that is bigger than 9 oz and can be used with Similac nipples.

Oh yeah and I've actually ordered more Similac nipples off of ebay, they come nipple and ring in individually sterilized packs. I'm about to have to order more, I use them and machine wash them and toss when they start looking worn. They're also convenient to have unopened ones in the diaper bag because I use the ready to feed Similac 8 oz bottle (and the 2 oz ones before that) for to-go feedings.

A friend of mine went through every bottle under the sun before deciding the best ones were the cheap plain old Gerber bottles for her kid.

So honestly after all this, I'd say register for one of each of the ones you'd like to try just to see what works, then you can go get more of whatever works!
