My doctor said no travel after 24 weeks - I was shocked! I have a family wedding when I will be 28 weeks that is a 3 hour drive away and I wouldn't be staying overnight. The doctor said I could do what I wanted to do but she doesn't reccommend it and "how would I feel if I went and something happened?"
Okay then, guess I'm staying home? Thank goodness my family is all flying to Georgia from Texas to throw me a shower!
What have your doctors said about travel?
Re: No travel after 24 weeks?!
Wow, that's really strict!!
My dr said he doesn't want me to fly past 32 weeks, but he's taking a "wait and see" approach to the 5 hour car ride + overnight stay I want to do at 36 weeks. ( I really want to see my baby sister graduate from college!)
Are you having a high risk pregnancy?
My doctor said no international travel after 32 weeks, and no domestic travel after 36 weeks. She also suggested purchasing trip insurance on a trip I'm taking to Mexico when I'll be 25-26 weeks, in case complications arise and I need to cancel.
That is not the norm, especially if your are driving and not flying.
I work in the medical field and from my experience and what my doc has told me: safe to fly up to 30 weeks, some doc's say longer depending on how your pregnancy is going.
Are you having issues with your pregnancy or considered high risk? I would ask your doctor about this. I hope you get to go to the wedding.
That sounds crazy to me unless you are high risk!! My OB said not to fly after 35 weeks.
And as others have said, there are hospitals that you can go to if "something" were to happen along the way. I'd totally go an not even worry about it!!
FWIW, my OB told me not to ski but I'm doing it anyway and I told her that. Ultimately its up to YOU and what YOU feel comfortable doing. IMO, you can't stop living your life for 9 months!
that's early from everything I have read/heard!
I will be flying to Fort Lauderdale at 27 1/2 weeks and that will be the last of my flying until post-baby.
(We cancelled a trip to Mexico.. I would have been 34 weeks).
We are going to NYC for our 1 year anniversary and I'll be 32 weeks.... we're going by train and NYC has hospitals so I'm not concerned
i think if you are feeling good, you should go!!!
I was told no travel after 28 weeks, and that is considered conservative! But, my spring break falls when I am 29-30 weeks, and we would like to get away then.
They will monitor how things are going, and as long as I have no complications it will be fine. We won't go far though--not more than a few hour flight. I have to make sure everything I book is refundable just in case.
My 2 cents.... As a flight attendant? We have to stop flying (working) at 26 weeks. Meaning that most doctors would let a woman at 24 weeks push and pull a 250 pound beverage cart up and down the aisles of the airplane!!! I can't imagine why at 24 weeks your doctor says you couldn't travel! That seems crazy.
Me too, right after I laughed out loud at this order.
