That was an interesting appointment!
(brief background: Had 50 stitches after childbirth, got infected, got a fistula, couldn't go to the bathroom right, had reconstructive surgery 12 weeks post partum, didn't heal until Allie was a year old, now I'm healed but sex is excruciatingly painful)
So good news is I'm all healed up. Bad news is that sex is still way too painful. So today my doctor told me to get a vaginal dilator, or I can go to an "Adult Store" and get "something similar." He then had to describe it to me..."usually pink and fleshy material, about this big around..."
Of course this is his job, he's an OB GYN oncologist, but it was still an interesting conversation to have.
Now to find an in-network medical supply store that carries it, more fun conversations!
Re: My doctor prescribed me a dildo
That is awesome that you are all healed up! I have heard of the vaginal dilators before. They are supposed to do wonders. A lot of women use them for different sexual problems. It's awesome that there is something out there that will be able to help you. Congrats
!
Did you say you knoew what he was talking about.. and use the word dildo.. haha. I probably would have. That is so wonderful to hear that you are healed! It's only a matter of time to be back to yourself again I hope.
This is one of the best subject lines ever.
Seriously though, I wish you luck. What you've been through is terrible and must be extremely frustrating.
Thanks girls, yeah I cried when I found out I was healed! My doctor told me that it would never heal, I would always have an open wound. He said there must be a tract inside that was keeping it from healing since it had been 9 months and still wasn't closed. I went home and bawled my eyes out...and 5 days later it closed. I was hesitant to be excited, but that was 2 months ago and there's no sign that it was ever there, just a little scar, woo hoo!!
About sex always being painful...I'm not sure. I ask my doctors and they say "maybe, but you never know." There is no scar tissue or obstruction, my muscles are just stretched wrong, so they are hoping the dilator really helps. I hope so! I really miss being spontaneous and having "normal" sex. I actually do still have sex now with a LOT of help from a silver bullet (I couldn't do it without it, need a distraction from the pain), but it just isn't the same.
And yeah I should have just busted out with "Oh you mean a dildo! Should I get a really giant one?" but I'm not brave enough. I've already been embarrassed calling the insurance company and explaining what it is to see if it's covered. I've had to call 4 times, and one time it was a guy, so embarrassing! I bet he goes home tonight and tells his wife "I had an interesting day, a girl called and asked if we cover dildos!"
I wish you luck, I hope it works for you!
My face would've been SO red during the appointment!
I had a coworker once tell me that she was prescribed to lay in bed every day for 1/2 hour when she got home from work with a dildo in her. She had had a hysterectomy and it was supposed to help with muscle deterioration.
My face was like this
when she told me....lol. Interesting girl, she was.
Glad to see you're getting some help! Hope it works soon.
My baby is two!!! Baby girl 9/17/09
My other baby is still a baby! Baby Boy 11-30-11
Best. Post. Ever.
And I mean that in all accounts...the healing, the dildo convo with doc, the post title, every bit of it!
Good luck with your new medical equipment!
