Scheduled C-section and telling work

I have my c-section scheduled but have not told work the date, I guess I think its a personal thing and really don't went to announce the date my baby will be born.  Are you telling work the date ahead of time?  Thx

Re: Scheduled C-section and telling work

  • I had my c-section scheduled for my daughter's delivery and she came two weeks before that. Just because it's scheduled then doesn't mean that's when the baby will come.

But to understand you correctly, you don't want to tell your office when you're delivering so they won't know when your baby will be born? Shouldn't you let your office know when you expect to be gone so they can find suitable help to fill in your spot at work?

This. I totally get wanting the birth to be a private experience, but I'd also want to give them as much notice as possible. I see it the same as them knowing your due date and last expected day of work.

  • You really should tell them something.  Just give them the date of your c-section or your EDD... I wouldn't share anything else though.

  • They know you are pregnant and will eventually have a kid.  It will also be on any paperwork the doc fills out for disability/FMLA.  The professional thing to do is tell so that people can plan accordingly.

This. I agree. The birth is a private experience. However, the last thing I would want to be towards my boss and co-workers is rude from withholding pertinent information like when I start my maternity leave. Your boss, at the very least, should know the date you intend to start your maternity leave. That date doesn't necessarily mean you're having a baby right then.

  • i would at least tell ur bboss. since its a medical procedure he legally cant tell anyone. tell him now and then maybe your coworkers a week or two before you go in .
  • You do NOT have to tell everyone the date.  It's none of their business.  You can just say March if that makes you more comfortable.

I would tell your boss or HR your EDD or your c-section date to help them plan for your absence though.  You do not have to say that you are having a c-section that day, just say you plan for your last work day to be xyz and leave it at that.
