when babies are too big to carry both in carseats...

what do you do? like when you are bringing them into daycare? Do you carry both carseats of use your DSNG?? What about when they are out of the infant carseats and into the convertible ones? Do you carry both babies?? This just came into my mind as mine are starting daycare in a few weeks (only one day thankfully)

  • I've been carrying them both but don't know how much longer I'll be able to do it.  I'm really starting to feel it in my back.  I have to bring DD#1 to and from dance (which is only 1/2 mile from our house) 5x's a week and it's a PITA to bring both babies and carseats in and out of the house/car for pickup and drop off.  But I can't bring myself to leave one in the car while I bring the other in.  Luckily DD#1 is 10 so sometimes she can help me by carrying one baby.  I've been thinking that there must be an easier way...but probably not.

  • We're getting close to that too.  I just feel like I fling them around and ram into things now that they're getting to heavy.  Thankfully we have an in-home, so I'll probably just leave one in the car while I carry the other.  Haven't done it yet though.

  • Can you pull up to the door and have a staff member meet you to help carry one?  You can always carry one in the seat and take the other one out and carry them on your hip.  Or get a sling for one and carry the other.  The stroller is always an option too.
  • I asked this question myself a month or two ago. Mine are too heavy in the carseats too. Right now I am still carrying both at the same time for short distances while they are in the carseats.  My Dh drops off at daycare and is able to carry both. I pick up and one of the daycare people brings one baby out to the car for me.

I will soon start putting one in a cheapo umbrella stroller and carry the other one. ( I am not using a double because it doesnt fit down the driveway)

I can not carry two at a time in my arms.

This!  I really swing them around these days!   I don't have a ton to offer solution-wise, but I am curious how others respond.  I don't like the idea of leaving one in the parking lot - but really I can't think of another option.  we have the added bonus of the infant room on the second floor - it's up a flight of steps once we are in - so the stroller option just won't work in our situation.

I hope there are some creative solutions out there I just haven't thought of yet!

  • When they were smaller, I carried one in a Bjorn on my front and one in my arms on my left hip. Once the hip baby (DD) got too heavy to lift over her brother's head into the car, I switched to using a double stroller. GL-- daycare is a whole other set of logistics to figure out. (BTW, keep in mind you'll probably be carrying other things, too, like their bottles/food, etc.)

  • I park my car in the garage, so I just load one baby in and out of the car at a time. DH takes them to day care and puts one in a stroller and carries the other. When I go to pick them up, I use the double stroller.

  • Out of the carseat, into the stroller, into daycare or doctor's office or whatever building we are going into.  Rinse and repeat.  (get yourself a good cooler bag so you only have to carry one bag with bottles, milk, diapers, wipes and whatever else needs to go into daycare).

Not gonna lie- it's exhausting.  I have to do it in and out of our house too because we have a townhouse and our parking spot is around the corner.  I can't wait until they can walk and listen well enough to just hold my hands and wait to be put into the carseats, but it's just not safe right now.

DH and I do dropoff together every morning which helps a TON- is something like that possible for you?  I don't think it's right to ask a teacher to stop what they are doing, find someone to cover their room, and help me take my kid to the car.  So I pop them into the stroller and take the stroller out to the car, then from stroller to carseat, etc etc.  Other twin moms or even just moms with 2 kids do this at our daycare all the time too- you won't be alone!  :)

Me too!  I almost rammed Lily's head into the door the other day.  Sheesh.

I just moved them to the convertibles because I couldn't stand how heavy they were in the bucket seats.  So now, when we go to Gymboree, I wear one in the Bjorn and carry the other on my hip.  I look ridiculous, but it works.
