Pregnant after IF

This insomnia thing is KILLING ME

I am SO uncomfortable I can't stand it. And SO, SO tired. The past few nights I've been getting in bed and just tossing and turning for like 5 hours. My body aches, the babies are kicking so hard in weird places, my ribs hurt, I am SO HOT all the time, and my mind is just racing -- I can't stop thinking about stuff I have to do even though I've been steadily working through my to-do list and I know it will all get done.

I used to be a solid 9 hours per night sleeper, and now I'm lucky if I get a few hours, and it's really, really wearing on me. It's 2:30am and I've been trying to sleep since 10 and I give up. I barely slept last night so I thought tonight would be better. I hate this. I just feel like crying right now. :(

Re: This insomnia thing is KILLING ME

  • Pop a few Tylenol pm tomorrow night. I had major sleep issues while pregnant and my MFM told me to take it since me being rested was important. I was hesitant at first but as soon as I gave in it was amazing.

I hope you get some relief and rest soon!

  • I'm having the same problem!!!  I fall asleep though but 2 hours later I'm up to pee and then I can't go back to sleep!  My hips hurt so bad that they keep me up.  Hang in there. There's an end in sight!

  • Ugh, I had the same problem with sleep.  I used to get a solid 8 hours of sleep nightly.  Like cara-n-steve, my hips sometimes hurt so much that they keep me up at night.  Fortunately, I've been able to get more sleep in the 3rd tri.  Hope you're able to get rest soon.  Hang in there!

  • I second the tylenol PM. My Dr. also said it was fine.
  • Unisom and Tylenol PM are both on my OB's safe list (as long as you only take them once in a while). Hopefully one of those can help you get some rest. I am only 21 weeks and having trouble sleeping thanks to carpal tunnel I have developed. I am worried that it will get worse and I'll eventually end up with no sleep :-( I'll definitely be taking something to help me catch some zzzzs every now and then. Good luck!

  • My RE prescribed Ambien for me.  I don't take it every night, but it's a God-send when I do take it.  Like last night, I didn't even wake up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Have you talked to your OB about something to help you sleep?

  • I posted this same thing a few days ago.  I have an ambien prescription but I need to ask my doc about it today and make sure I can take it.  I went to the pharmacy and talked to the pharmacist and she said I can take unisom, tylenol pm or excedrin pm.  Benadryl is on the list too, but I am allergic to something in Benadryl, not the active ingredient, it turns out since the same thing is in all the over the counter sleep aids.  Anywho unisom had the highest amount of the sleep aid in the over the counter options so I got that one.  I slept like a baby on Monday night, it was lovely.

  • THANK YOU girls -- I was wondering if I should try Tylenol PM now and then -- I'm definitely going to!!!
