TTC After a Loss
exposed to TB today
I was educating a family that spoke no english. I had an interpreter with me. The mom came in with a flimsy mask on. I assumed she had a cold or maybe the flu- or a compromised immune system and was wearing a mask to protect herself. We were in a tiny room with the door closed for over an hour and she was coughing. After we are done with the session, the lady leaves and the interpreter tells me that she just told her she has TB! I freaked out. Started crying. When I worked at the hospital you had to wear N95 masks when you were around anyone with TB. And if you were exposed you were put on Rifampin for 6 or 9 mos- which I am pretty sure you can't take while you are pregnant. We called the infection specialist at the health dept. She said we weren't at risk because we weren't around her 6 hours and she has been on medicine less than a month- they know the lady. But that seems so different than what they told us at the hospital. Now I am freaking out. She said they will test us in the morning and that is all they will do unless we show symptoms. I can't believe my luck.

The testing thing sounds effed up too, there is no point in testing you NOW cause it takes a while to incubate after exposure. Jeez. *HUGS* I hope nothing comes of it and you're fine but that is freaky sh!t!

I am so sorry - that is horrible!! Hoping that you will be negative and not have any issues to deal with. I just can't believe she didn't mention it right away. I know she didn't speak English, but still, she obviously knew it could be something to be concerned about. How frustrating!

omg, I'm so sorry you had this happen! I would be freaking too. Thoughts and prayers that the tests come back fine, and you show NO symptoms!
