Water birthing available at Brigham and Women's Hosp.?

I'm interested in various options of natural birthing and water birthing is an option. Has anyone had water birthing at Brigham's before or anywhere else? I like to hear your opinion and what it's like =)

Re: Water birthing available at Brigham and Women's Hosp.?

  • B&W doesn't offer water birth.  In the general metro Boston area the facilities that do are Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge (with the midwives), The Cambridge Birth Center and The North Shore Birth Center in Beverly.  Some other hospitals have tubs to labor in, but not to birth in.

I've had one waterbirth and would do it again with future births.  It was my second birth, but first unmedicated birth so the two experiences were very different.  I wasn't in the tub long, but I did find the water very soothing and relaxing and loved the ease of moving around/position changes in the water.  I was able to catch my son and that might be my favorite thing about the whole waterbirth experience.
