Breech babies

I know we talked about this a few days ago - whether breech babies "drop".

While I didn't ask this question specifically - my dr. did say that if the LO doesn't have their head in position, it can keep things from progressing like normal. For example, my actual due date is in 11 days and I have 0 dilation. She can't even feel the baby during an internal. She says this is a result of him being transverse and not head down.

I hope that makes sense.

Did you all find out anything different during your appointments? I think 2 other breech mommies had appointments today too.

Re: Breech babies

  • I asked about this on Monday- my OB said it depends on position. Transverse babies won't drop, there just isn't room. Frank breech babies usually will, their butt will drop into the pelvis, which is why this is the preferred position if your OB/MW will let you try for a vaginal breech delivery. Footling breech babies will- which is pretty dangerous due to increased risk of cord prolapse. My LO was a complete breech- they usually don't drop due to just not fitting.

  • I asked on Monday as well. She said sometimes Frank Breech babies drop because their bums act like the head normally would.

I have a Frank Breech baby and I have no effacement or dilation and I'm 38 weeks. At this point with my daughter, I was 75% effaced and 1cm dilated.

I also don't have that "bowling ball" in my crotch feeling. LO is very very high into my ribs, which isn't very comfortable either.

  • I am frank breech as well, but at last weeks appointment i was 2 1/2 cm dilated and the baby is sitting very low but he must be very long b/c he is alll up in my ribs!! I go to the doctor tomorrow so we shall see. I'm scheduled for my c-section next week but i'm hurting soooo bad i'm ready now!
  • DD was a footling breech and she dropped.  It was one of the reasons my doctor couldn't flip her because she was stuck in my pelvis.

DS was feet first (and constantly kicked my cervix...ouch!) and he never dropped.  I did make progress to 2cm and 60% at 35 weeks but didn't do any more internals after that because well he was breech and I wasn't about to have that "fun" when I knew my pelvis was to blame.

  • Of course I forgot to ask that today at my appointment.  I remembered as soon as DH and I got in the car.  What a ding bat.  You know, I'm the one who initiated that post the other day, by the way.  LOL!  I feel like baby dropped (she's frank breech, so at least based on other posters, that's possible).  I feel like she's constantly on my bladder now and there is a lot more pressure.  OK, but then there are times like now where I feel her up near my ribs.  Maybe she's just a gigantic baby.  Who knows.  We scheduled my c-section last week (for the 14th) and at todays appointment, she was stilll very much breech so we're sticking with the section.  My OB says because her fluid is on the low side of normal and bc she's 37w4d the liklihod of her flipping is pretty slim.  So I have yet to have any type of internal exam.  Is that odd?  I figure maybe there's no use since we are doing a c-section.
