Fertility Insurance

I know there is no such thing :( but..Have any of you ladies found any good plans that cover a lot?

I will be going to a fertility specialist within PAMF. I want to be prepared with the best plan I can get. If any of you have one in mind please share:)

TIA!!!!

Good Luck ladies! 2011 is our year!

Re: Fertility Insurance

  • It varies dramatically. States with mandated coverage obviously have the best options. Here's the link about what each state is required to offer (only 15 states mandate any sort of coverage): https://www.fertilitylifelines.com/payingfortreatment/state-mandatedinsurancelist.jsp

Here in Seattle, Microsoft is known for offering the best coverage through Aetna. DH also has Aetna through his company in San Diego, and they offer some coverage. Talking with my financial counselor at the RE she said Aetna does tend to be good, but the coverage will vary dramatically from DH's (covers diagnostics and maybe IUI) to Microsoft's (covers everything including IVF). Keep in mind, you can usually only switch plans during open enrollment which is only once a year. But would certainly be worth waiting for if they actually pay for anything!  Good luck!

  • Thanks for your input! I am on my DH's insurance through his work. He is in the Union so its tricky with rainy season. During winter we always have issues with coverage. I did not have coverage in Dec due to lack of hours to be eligible. Its ridiculous! So I am searching for a individual plan to help us through fertility testing and possible treatments.

My current plan (when I am eligible) only offers needed things. No fertility anything is covered :(

I am in California, Ill check your link. THANK YOU! and GL!

  • Hi

I read about CA and description is very confusing even this state mandates the coverage...

If you are employed you should talk to your HR, maybe they offer some kind of discounts with certain insurance companies. Maybe you could find new job with good benefits. Sometimes to be paid less w good plan w safe you many vs better pay and be self insured. I was looking around and insurance cost terrible money, I don't even think you would spent so much,,,

Is your current plan covering pregnancy expences and delivery? Those cost a lot too, so before you get insurance make sure pay attention.

And the final advice: whatever you sign up for insurance, make sure to ask for full description of coverage. My HR gave me 4 pages, I work for religious organization so there was said they dont cover anything whats related w/ fertility. I paid so many bills because the people who work in insurance company didn't care to much either. Only RE finantial advisor found out that I have 100% coverage for testing and research. I just don't have coverage for treatment. I looked up online and found 56 pages of full coverage description. I will try to get my money back.

    Good luck!

,,,it took two years to get there,,,
