Ugh, aunt probably has cancer. We're NOT close.

My mom's sister probably has cancer. They found out today I think. She lives 600 miles away. We're NOT close. I honestly really don't like her. She's the kind of person who uses people for money and looks for reasons to sue people, companies, etc.. instead of working.  It's disgusting.

That being said, I really want to support my mom in all of this. My mom feels the same way I do about her, but I realize it's a lot different because it's her sister! How can I be most supportive at this time?

I am by no means happy she has cancer, I wouldn't wish that on anybody. It's definitely sad. But it doesn't all of the sudden make me like her, kwim?

  • I can't fly out. If I could, I honestly would.  I'm not sure if my mom will or not. Hopefully if she does my sister or dad can take time off to go with her! I just feel bad, I know my mom's having a hard time, even more so because she's not close with her.

  • I would just reiterate to your mom that you love her (your mom) and will support whatever she wants/needs to do to get through this.

  • I completely understand what you are going through. Your aunt doesn't live in Iowa does she? I am going through the same thing right now. My aunt (married to my mom's brother) was just diagnosed with Leukemia in the past couple of days.
