Had a c-section 2 weeks ago, now I need my gallstones removed!

So I've finally started to feel good and comfortable after my c-section, right?  Then last night I had horrible stomach pains, which I knew were caused by my gallbladder because I had the same pains back in August while pregnant.  Back then I was told that it was just "sludge" that would eventually become stones.  I didn't think it would happen so quickly!

So I spent 8 hours in the emergency room, 4 of them in horrible pain, and finally after an ultrasound and blood work I was told I had gallstones.  Tomorrow I have a surgery consultation to schedule when I'll be having surgery to get them removed.

My husband goes back to work on Thursday, and LO is only 2 weeks old.  This is really gonna suck.

  • Oh no! That's awful. Did they say what the recovery would be like??

  • try not to worry to much it! as long as they are just stones they make four small ins. and nothing major you will be up and moving the same day. i had my done with a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 month old.

    good luck!

  • oh no!  You poor thing!  Will they go in orthoscopically?  I hope its an easier recovery!

  • I had several gallbladder attacks in August and will have to have my gallbladder out once my son is born. From everything I've read, if it's taken out laproscopically, you have an overnight hospital stay and that's it. I personally cannot wait until it's out and I don't have to worry about another attack every time I eat.

    Good luck!

I had a c/section on Oct. 11 and had my gallbladder removed on Dec. 8.  I had really bad complications while pregnant and had to have a procedure under general anesthesia at 34 weeks to remove 5 stones from my common bile duct.

Recovery is easier than with the c/s.  It was day surgery.  I went in around 10 and was out by 4.  DD stayed with my parents for the night which was tremendously helpful and DH stayed home for 3 days.  Hardest part is not lifting, so you'll need people to help you.  You'll feel okay after about a week, but you should have help because you aren't supposed to lift anything (including LO!).   In all honesty, one of the hardest parts for me was literally feeling like my body had been ripped apart between the two surgeries.  It's been tough, but well worth it to know that I won't be in that kind of pain again.

    GL...and I'm back to lurking .
