Were currently feeding 4 oz a feeding, every 3-4 hours. He's almost 5 weeks. He acts hungry when were done and he gets very cranky (chewing on hands) but last week when we told the dr he ate 4-6 oz per feeding she said we were way over feeding him and to stick to 4 oz at most right now. How much is your 5 week old eating, or if they're older do you remember what they were at at this age?

Re: FFers- what amount are you giving?
how much is he sleeping over night? How much total in a day?
I do not think any amount per feeding is too much. But you could be feeding too much through the entire day.
DD is a small eater. She only takes 4-5 ounces 4-5 times a day. At most she eats 20 ounces a day. She sleeps 10-11 hours over night.

Sometimes a bottle fed baby CAN overeat. They don't have to work as hard to get milk. The milk comes faster and sometimes their brains can't process that they are full in time.
I would try feeding him a little less and waiting 30-45 minutes. If he is still acting hungry at that time feed a little bit more!

Another option could be to slow down his eating. If he eats fast he could not be getting the cues that he is full. Use a slower nipple or stop and burp after each ounce. If he's still showing hunger signs after that then I say feed him more.
How big is he? DD is 2 weeks and eating 2-4oz every 3-4 hours. Our pedi thinks that's perfect for our 9 pound baby.
Are you sure you don't have my baby? This sounds like my life exactly.
Anyway, my LO is almost 6 weeks and she eats 3-5 ounces every 3-4 hours. Probably eats 28 ounces total a day.
