I only had 1 U/S..

newbaby on the waynewbaby on the way
in 3rd Trimester
Throughout this pregnancy. I was wondering if the all the OBs request a growth scan late in pregnancy? I haven't asked my ob but I'm guessing she isn't going to do one on me=( Are we suppose to request one or do they just do one automatically. If I don't get one done does it matter? TIA

    Most insurances will only pay for one. The growth scan at 20 weeks. Unless there is something alarming like a 'too-big' belly, they won't do another one.

    no complications = less ultra sounds. OB gets concerned if your fundal measurements are off or you have GD, etc

    You generally only get one at the end if you aren't measuring correctly (too big or too small) or if the OB is uncertain of the babys position (breech, etc).

    I only had 2 u/s (one at 12 weeks and one at 20 weeks) and that was supposed to be it. I had some bleeding so I had another one at 34 weeks so I doubt you'll have another one unless there are complications. I hope you don't!

    My OB schedules a growth scan after 30 weeks for everybody, even if there are no complications or concerns... but I know this is not the norm.

    My OB had me do one early on at 6 weeks to get measured for how far along I was to see where my due date was falling with that. Then I had one at 12 for NT Scan, and then my last one as at 20 for the anatomy scan. I don't think I am having anymore unless their is complications. I think that is pretty much the norm for most people.

    Typically, most places dont do a growth u/s unless you aren't measuring correctly. We only get them because they are checking to see if LO is no longer breech. They just check the position of the head and then we are done.

    With DD#1 I had two, but only because I had a threatened miscarriage in the beginning of my pregnancy.  One at 7 weeks for bleeding, and one at 20 weeks.

    With this pregnancy, I have only had one at 20 weeks, and then I also had the 4D u/s that we paid for last week.

    Allie ~ 01/26/09 ~ 7 lbs, 9 oz ~ 20.75 in. & Amelia ~ 03/16/11 ~ 8 lbs, 1 oz ~ 21 in.
