Parenting after 35

Back in the land of the living and way behind.

Those of you who are my friend on FB probably know that my whole family got hit with a stomach bug over the past few days. Sunday may have been one of the hardest days of my life- home alone, taking care of Caroline while feeling like I wanted to die. Luckily we are all on the mend now. I am back at work today and Caroline was very happy to get out of the house and back to daycare this morning.

The bad part is that I lost the whole weekend. The weekend that I needed to get ready for Caroline's party this weekend. I don't have anything. I had planned to go to Costco Sunday and now I don't know how or when that will happen. I haven't ordered a cake. I don't have any presents for her or for DH, who's birthday is also Saturday. Not too mention the cleaning that needs to be done on my house. Argh, argh, argh.

  • So glad everyone is feeling better! Maybe you could go straight from work to Costco and wherever else you need to. Can your DH handle dinner and bedtime?

I know you don't want to miss any time with Caroline, but you spent a whole LOT of sick time with her recently ;)

  • So glad to hear you are all feeling better!!!

I'm sure you will get everything done and if it doesn't get done, don't worry about it...esp cleaning the house! :)

That's true. I think she was very glad to see people besides me this morning.

    This.

    Glad everyone is feeling better.

Also,  I am sure you know that Party City has party stuff for the 1st birthday.

  • uck, so glad you all are feeling better. it's so hard to get things done when healthy, sometimes, so i can totally feel for you!

as for the cake- you can actually fax your order in to save you a trip! call them up and tell them you need an order form and they'll fax it to you and you fax it back. (btw, the costco cake was the biggest hit with sabrina's big party- and i ordered it via fax) they only need 24 hours notice. do your gift shopping during the week during your lunch breaks (if you can). do your cleaning every single day this week and by week's end you should have it all in presentable shape. you'll be fine!! we'll all be rooting for you!

  • Oooh, the icks are bad!!!  Glad you're all feeling better.  For the party - take a deep breath.  Shop online - I love amazon and they really mean 2 day shipping!  Plus, we only got Ellie about 3-4 things ourselves - a book, a blankie, and a toy or two - for her birthday.  While I would've loved to go wandering the few cute toy stores nearby, it wasn't going to happen with my going back to work, so...next year.  And Ellie or Caroline won't be the wiser.  Clean what you can - after all you're just going to have to clean again when everyone leaves or better yet, call in a cleaning service!  Good luck - hope you can figure it out to where you're comfortable so you can enjoy!!
