A week ago I posted that I was heading to the hospital for an induction because of pre-e. Here's what happened:
I was admitted Monday night and was not dilated at all. They gave me cervadil (a cervic ripening agent) - this was horribly painful when inserted. I'm pretty sure the nurse that put it in did not do it right beacause they said it should not hurt at all. This stayed in for 12 hours and when they did an internal after the 12 hours, I still was not dilated.
Tuesday morning they started me on petocin and expected that I'd have the baby that evening. After 8 hours on petocin and contracting (which I didn't even feel), I still had not dilated. My doctor suggested doing the cervadil again that night, but I told her I really didn't want to because it was so painful. She decided we would try cytotec (another ripening agent). This was inserted every 4 hours overnight. After this was done my cervix had softened, but still wasn't dilated.
Wednesday morning my water broke at 7:18am and they started the petocin again. I was so excited that things were finally progressing. After a few hours I started dilating and then continued at about 1cm per hour. My contractions started getting strong and I got my epidural (not painful at all). Once I had the epidural, I barely felt a thing! I got to 7cm and then things came to a hault. Three hours went by and I hadn't dilated anymore. My temperature started rising and the baby's heart rate was getting high. My fever reached 101.3 and the baby's heart rate went in the 220's! Time for an emergency c-section. I got so upset, but just wanted the baby to be ok. They rushed me back to the OR and got my husband dressed in scrubs. The anesthesiologit came in to top off my epidural and told the doctor it was going to take 10 to 15 min to kick in and the doctor said, "we don't have 10 minutes." The fear that ran through me was insane! They had to put me under general anesthesia and my husband could not come in.
I woke up on the way to recovery and had no idea what happened, but was told my baby was fine. What a relief! About 15 minutes later they brought in the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and she was completely healthy. I never knew it was possible to love this much!
As it turns out, I had gotten an infection in my uterus from all the internals during my induction. Recovering has been a little difficult. It's mostly been very emotional because there is a lot of stuff that I can't do and all I want to do is take care of my baby girl. We got released on Saturday and have been adjusting well. I would never wish anyone to go through this, but the end result was worth every second and all the pain.
Here she is:

Re: Victoria Rae is here - birth story (extremely long)
Yikes! Glad everything worked out! Sorry you had to go through so much!
What a beautiful little girl! Congratulations! Good luck with your recovery!
She is absolutely beautiful! It must have been so scary - especially when the dr. said you didn't have 10 minutes. I can't believe that internals could create that kind of situation - makes you really wonder! But I'm glad you are all ok and thank you for sharing your story!
I'm curious - what kind of things do you want to do that you can't do? I'm going for c/s on Thursday...

She is soooo cute. Congrats!!
I couldn't get out of bed at first so I couldn't even change her diapers. Then of course just being able to walk with her and rock her to soothe her. Luckily DH was great and really stepped up to care for her.
