I did a little research (which I should have done first) and found that lower back pain is actually a sign of threatened miscarriage. Good to know. (Now I have one more thing to be paranoid about once I get pregnant again). As far as during/after miscarriage:
"During a pregnancy, the body undergoes a number of changes, both physically and emotionally. With reference to the physical changes that occur during a pregnancy, the uterus expands to make place for the growing child. As this happens, it tends to put a slight amount of strain on the muscles of the lower back because of the tension on the tendons and other tissues that hold the uterus in place. After a miscarriage, the body needs to return to its original size, allowing relaxation of the muscles that have been strained. Women experience throbbing back pain after miscarriage as the uterus comes back to its initial size.
As for the headaches, apparently that can be due to blood loss, low blood pressure and other things, as well as hormonal changes. Since the thought of getting a transfusion or temporarily going on birth control (one of the solutions) are not on the top of my list I'll stick with my advil and see where it all comes out. The good news is I'm not bleeding - at least not today ![]()
Re: FU: Throbbing Back and Headaches
Ahhh Thanks for posting. I didnt get to my MW today so I didnt get to ask for us but was going to ask at my Wed appointment.
And now that im thinking about it I had lower back pain from 6 weeks untill I MC at 7 weeks and my MW said it was probably sciatica. I did go to the hospital because of the pain and because they didnt have an OB there they didnt do anything. Did not even do an U/S. I probably would have found out then instead of 4 weeks later.
Hope this is all over for us soon.
