TTC After a Loss

DH thinks I am going overboard with TTCAL

So I know we have only been trying for 2 months but I feel like I should do something else to monitor my ovulation. I was all set to temp but when I got home with my thermometer, DH looked at me like I had 3 heads. He said that we should do a cycle without anything! Not even OPKs like I have in the past. He thinks we just need to have fun! Would you ladies give DHs plan a shot or should I go along with temping like I had planned?

  • Well, I maybe the odd one out but I think one cycle letting it be.

  • Hm....you've only been trying for 2 months...how many months have you been charting?  If you know pretty much what days you usually ovulate, then just FWP EOD and you should be covered.  I got PG without doing ANYTHING. Here I am TTC with all these things I learned....haven't really gotten PG again. So it's your call.

  • I think that you need to do whatever you feel comfortable with - and have a talk with your DH.  I mean you obviously need to be on the same page, but men don't always have a good understanding at how our bodies work and why it's important to know that.

Maybe you could compromise - temp to get the hang of it this cycle, but not "use" the information - maybe no OPK's, b/c temping will only tell you after you O, not before.  And then have fun with DH this month.  This way you can start to get used to reading more of your body's signals and get used to temping and then you can get serious next cycle.

    Good luck.

  • I'd temp but my DH thinks I'm nuts too. He also thinks we should just have fun. I'm planning on temping but not making a big deal out of it.

  • I would be torn.  I'm not temping right now, but I would have a hard time giving up OPKs (I think it's more of a control thing than anything for me because so far it hasn't made a difference).  As long as you scatter the calendar with a whole lot of fun/spontaneous trying it may not be a bad thing.  Tough call.

  • I'm a big supporter of temping and charting. DH didn't see the point, but changed his tune pretty quickly after I showed him how long some people's cycle's can be and how you don't always O at the same time.
  • I liked the compromise mentioned about just temping.

However, if my DH saying that meant we'd be BDing every few days or so (maybe more around the likely O time), I'd be game for his plan.

Wise advice! You could temp to see when you O, but it obviously won't serve to help you plan your FWP. This shouldn't affect your DH and if he understands that it won't help you with the timing this month, he might feel differently about it.

    Good luck.

  • Thanks for the advice ladies! I am going to try explaining that temping wouldn't really help with this cycle anyways. I guess if he still isn't on board I could give his idea a try! Heck I was been peeing on OPKs and having what I thought was perfect timing so maybe not trying will work! Please oh please let me be a FH for this month!!!!

  • It wouldn't hurt to let go of the charting for a month. I rely heavily on charting when we're TTC because if I wasn't our FWP would be totally off and we don't have the stamina to do it even if it's EOD. If you and your hubby can handle tons of sexy time throughout the month to cover all your bases...go for it!

  • I would tell your DH to kiss my booty!  There is nothing wrong with knowing what is going on with your body!  Once I learned what charting was all about, I fell in love.  I will always chart!

  • I like the idea of temping for a few months.  I guess my DH is the odd one out.  He loves that I temp, and insisted on FF VIP and me getting OPK's.  He's completely fascinated by it all.

  • My DH thinks I'm crazy too.  I feel a little stupid temping and using OPKs when he's around to be honest.  He always makes fun of me when my 5:30 alarm goes off when I am not working that day.  He says "time for your vag temp!"  He knows that I take my temp orally but he still gets a kick out of saying that.

I like the idea of still charting but not using OPKs to get an idea of when you O.
