Moms who pump & freeze

I'm just curious how big your freezer stash is so far. I have 80oz frozen right now.  I'm not sure why because I work from home so it's not like I NEED a stash.  But I can't bring myself to throw away my pumped milk.

about 50oz so far but I only pump once a day and sometimes not at all.

  • I have not added it up lately but 2 weeks ago I had over 60oz.  I do need somewhat of a freezer stash for when I return to work.  However, I really only need enough for one day since daily I pump nearly twice what DS eats so it will be easy to send fresh milk for him.  I am not sure what I am going to do with the milk.  I have considered eliminating my nightime pumping sessions to reduce my supply and reduce how much I am freezing. For me it feels better to put it in the freezer than to dump it out but really in the end it will probably be the same end since it only stays good in the freezer for 3 months...
  • I have a whopping 20 oz.  I mostly was supplementing with the milk I'd pumped but now that I know LO is gaining weight (he gained a pound and an ounce in 2 weeks!! wooo!!)  and apparently I've given myself a huge oversupply by over pumping I'm goign to cut back to only pumping once a day and only for about 5 minutes or so.

  • I have 112 oz so far frozen and I keep on tap about 30 oz in the fridge ready to go from my daily pumping sessions.  I will be returning to work though at the end of the month so I know I'll be using this all up soon.

***based off the responses below..I guess i should mention that i EP

  • Are you pumping after every feeding?? I had a small stash started but it's gone since we're supplementing with the pumped milk. I've just been pumping twicve a day after a feeding for about 5 minutes and I get about 4oz total. Should I be doing something different??

I only pump for 5 minutes about 2 or 3 times a day.  We aren't supplementing though so everything that I pump gets saved.  I guess what you do depends on your individual needs :)

  • I am jealous! Ionly have 20 oz saved and that's with freezing only, not bottle feeding. I'm lucky if I get an ounce or two per pumping.

  • I have about 50-60oz. I pumped a lot during week 2-3 and ended up giving myself an over supply. I'm cutting down on the pumping to get it under control. I usually freeze 3-10oz a day. I've dipped into the stash to allow Mr.MM to give Paige a bottle a day.

  • I never kept track of what I froze, though I really need to do that.  I EP and generally get around 40 oz/day and N eats around 25 oz.  So I guess I've been freezing around 15 oz/day.  I think we're going to buy a deep freezer so I can store the milk a lot longer and I can quit pumping sooner.

  • I have about 200oz... it's ridiculous, I know but I make wayyyy too much milk and we're never gonna use it all so I'm in the process of donating that to a milk bank b/c I don't want to throw it out...
  • I have 343 ounces in the deep freeze right now. I only pump twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night before bed.  I have a HUGE over supply and I have tried not pumping but I get so engorged that my DS can't latch and I'm in serious pain so I pump.

I work from home so I don't need a freezer stock so I'm looking into donating to a milk bank.

To the person that said it is only good 3 months, that isn't true if you freeze it in a freezer that isn't open often it is good for 6 months.
