Strollers

I swear, Strollers are going to be the death of me.

DH and I were going to use one of his sisters hand-me-down strollers, but after family members complained that we didn't have enough large ticket items on our registry, we decided we might as well register for a brand new stroller.

Here is where I need your help. Baby is due mid- Feb. I do not want a large travel system type stroller or one that I need to put the infant carseat  in order to use the stroller with an infant. We live in Minnesota, so the earliest- depending on how soon the snow goes away- we would use a stroller outdoors is May-ish. By the time May rolls around, Baby will  be roughly 3 months old.

We are looking for a stroller that we can use with a 3 month old, but we will be able to use ideally until baby is older. So something that has a low min weight and a high max weight limit would be best.  Also, we are not looking for a jogging stroller either. I have been looking for a lightweight stroller but not one of the $10 umbrella strollers.

We went to BRU and we had the hardest time trying to determine which of the strollers would work for us.

Do you ladies have any suggestions/ideas?

Re: Strollers

  • Not sure if this will help you but what we did was register for just a lightweight metal frame that our Snugride infant carseat snaps right into (I'm was with you on not wanting the huge, heavy travel system.)  Not very expensive.  And we also registered for the Jeep jogging stroller-for when she's a little older/heavier.  I was going to need one anyway to well, jog and didn't want to do both the travel system and that.

    Good luck!

  • This (CLICK ME) is the stroller we have, but in Lime Green (or if you're looking for it, 'Cosmic.' It is an AWESOME, AWESOME stroller. I had the red tandem when my 2nd was born because DS was only 17 months, but I loved it then and knew we'd get teh single when we had another child. I'm not big for sticking with brands, but I LOVED this and for everything it does, it's at a FANTASTIC price. You can find comparable strollers for 2x the price. The seat reclines fully, which is perfect for an infant. I LOVE ours. (And if DH didn't kill me, I'd sell the green one we have for the one in the link!!)

  • We chose the Baby Jogger City-Mini. Min age is newborn and max weight is 50 lbs. My son is almost 5 (in March) and only weights abt 40 lbs so using him as a model, I'd say I've got a good 5 years + on the Mini :)

  • We got the Cybex Callisto stroller from overstock. We paid $110 and I think mamabargains.com also lists it occasionally for a similar price. It's pretty lightweight and pushes excellent. It can go from the newborn stage through 44 lbs. The only downside I can think of is the storage basket underneath. It's pretty small and very hard to get to with the stroller seat reclined.
I'm also buying a Maclaren Quest from my cousin. She had a bit of a stroller obsession with her daughters and had probably 20 strollers over a span of 5 years! It also pushes great and is pretty light. In fact, I pushed her 6 year old daughter around the kitchen in it, and it steered very nicely!
I would also recommend watching stroller reviews on youtube.com. I believe it's Baby Gizmo that posts them for just about every stroller made and they are quite helpful.

  • We got the Baby Jogger City Mini, as well.  It's not actually a jogging stroller -- the name of the company just happens to be Baby Jogger and they do make some other models that are for running.  The thing that completely sold it for me is that there is a handle in the crease of the seat and if you pick it up with one hand (it's only a 17lb stroller), the entire thing folds up in one movement.  Plus there's an attachment that will fit our Chicco carseat.
  • You read my mind with your post. I live in NW Indiana and we get a lot of lake effect snow so I won't even have use for a stroller really until April or later, so what is the need really to have one that holds the car seat when the baby will be more stable by the time we are really ready for it? And I have one of the little Infantino Baby Carriers. I have looked everywhere for the stroller that TIffany has. I can't even find the green one on ebay or Amazon. I have been obsessive about finding the green because the car seat is green. But they do sell it in the "blush" for girls (pink) and "tangelo" for boys (orange) You can get it on Amazon right now for $52, plus your free shipping if you're part of Amazon Mom. If I can get over my color crisis I will choose the Tangelo color.

  • There are some snow-related ones (but I live in the South) for your geographic needs if you want; otherwise do a Bjorn or Ergo type carrier so you keep your LO warm right next to you.

We also really want the umbrella type stroller, and so far Inglesina and Maclaren are our favorites--should last several years!  I'd suggest the Maclaren Quest or Triumph.

  • Use a carrier until winter is over, then you can start strollering.
