New to The Bump

New and confused!

Hi!! I am new to the board. Lately DH and I have been having the baby talk. We have been married for 3 years, and I am happy to say each year gets better and better. We both really want a baby, we just aren't sure we are ready. DH is very laid back and pretty much said whenever I am ready.

I am concerned about the lifestyle change. I am OK with not going out as much and changing our vacations to trips with the family, but I am mostly afraid to what it may do to our relationship.  Did anyone else have this fear of losing romance?

  • Honestly, the first year has a distinct potential to suck in the romance department. It can be hard to switch from parent mode to romance mode, and you have to deal with healing after having a baby, sleep issues, stressors, etc. But it does get better. At a certain point you settle into a routine and romance can be something to focus on more often. And you will likely learn to appreciate your DH more when he becomes a dad.

  • This is something I am concerned about, too!  This is our first month TTC, and we are so excited!  We are totally ready for this, but I know we will have to have really good communication in order to make it through the first 6-12 months with a baby.  I DO NOT do well with limited sleep, so obvs that will be a concern.  I'm hoping that by giving him a heads up, he'll not take it personally when I am grouchy.  ;) We'll see!

  • I'm glad I am not the only one who feels this way! Having strong communication really helps. Good luck to you and your hubby! It seems you are on the way to having a great family!
