  It's pretty common to be relieved as soon as you give notice in certain companies.  Depending on where you work you might have an escort while you clean your desk and leave the building.  Not that crazy.  I assume they would have paid out her notice, which is a nice little bonus for taking the high road.

  Yup, this exactly. They also paid me vacation time and all my floating holidays for the year (we don't accrue time). So it's like 6 weeks total. Very nice!

  Congratulations!  I know you said it wasn't uncommon, but I've never heard of anyone being just asked to leave!  Sorry your boss was such a wench.  I have a lot of those in my past as well.  Nothing worse than a crappy boss, IMO.
