I told work today

I decided to tell work today.  Most people were super excited for us.  My boss' response "You should have stuck to dogs they are cheaper".  Thats it.  No congrats!  I was a little stunned by this response!  Anyone elses boss act not that happy?

    My guess is that your boss has no children of his/her own!! That's so rude for anyone to say to you, let alone a boss!  Sorry they reacted to your news so immaturely.

    Is he a bitter, 30-something old single man?  Yup, that sounds like the right response.

    :P  He's just sad to lose you for 6+ weeks probably.

    its a male boss.  He just recently  got custody of his grand kids so I guess that is where it was coming from but still!

    Wasn't that just so nice.. lol. I'm telling my work Friday. I have an appt on Thursday, so I'm waiting until after that. My boss can be super happy/excited about some things and just seems to blow off other things. I think it depends on her mood. So I'm a bit nervous. I'll let you know how it goes :) Congrats on letting the news out!

    Eek, that's a bit on the harsh side! From your description of your boss, it sounds like he's in a bit of a bitter place, which maybe caused such a negative reaction. Hopefully he'll realize his comment was a bit inapropriate and apologize to you. Glad to hear the rest of the office took it well though!

    Yes, my boss did and he's my father.  Don't get me wrong he is ecstatic, but I think he is more worried about everything I do for him and how it is going to get done when I am gone for a couple months.

    Well, congrats on telling work, but sorry about the reaction from your boss! I told work today too...it is such a relief to have that off my chest. My boss handled it as well as could be expected...I started the job 2 months ago and she's counting on me for a lot. I was prepared that she wouldn't be thrilled, so her response was okay. She's just thinking how this will affect her when I'm not there to do the work!
