Sleeping/breathing issues, anyone?

I'm having increasing difficulty sleeping due to difficulty breathing when I lie down.  Within about five minutes, my sinuses seem to fill up even though I'm not sick.  It requires me to breathe through my mouth.  This not only causes me to get really dried out, but it also makes me breathe really loudly and sometimes snore, which disrupts DH's sleep.

It's worst on my left side and seems to be a little better on my right so I've been trying to sleep mostly on my right these days.  I've been sleeping propped up as well for about 15 weeks now, first to help with heartburn and now to help with my sinuses.

Anyone else in this boat?

  • A few nights ago DH said he woke up in the middle of the night and didn't like the way I was breathing so he brought our humidifier into our bedroom and that helped. I was also getting bloody noses everyday and my OB suggested a humidifier and I think it has helped a lot.

  • Absolutely...left side worse for some unknown reason!
  • Yep, but mine is my right sinus that gives me trouble.  Last night I found a Breathe Right strip in the medicine cabinet so I put it on and it made a TON of difference and kept my nose clear all night long.  It was so awesome not to be a mouth breather for an evening!  I'll definitely be trying another strip tonight to see if it helps again!

  • Try using the NeilMed Sinus rinse. I know some of the bumpies are using it twice a day. I'm using mine usually once a day. It helps me a lot.

  • Thanks for all of the tips, ladies!  I'll break out our humidifier tonight.  I'd love to hear whether the nose strips continue to help.  I'll look into the sinus rinse as well.

  • Yep.. the minute I lay my head down. Then it seems to clear up a bit, and then if I get up to go pee (I should say WHEN I get up to go pee lol) I get back into bed and it's plugged up again. ugh!

  • I have had this problem for the past few months. I decided to try the Breathe Right Strips and they have worked wonders. I read a while ago that during pregnancy your sinuses can swell causing breathing to be much harder. I wasn't able to sleep through the night at all. Ever since using the Breathe Right Strips, I have been sleeping MUCH better!
