So, DH and I are just at the beginning stages of testing. We are going through my obgyn for right now, and thought we would switch if we continued having TTTC or my obgyn found a problem. Since we are new to all the testing, I am not sure if this is the norm or not.....
I find us waiting all the time (and what seems like longer than normal) for the test results. 1. For my CD3 and 7DPO bloodwork, I had to call several times over the course of several days (and emails) and finally ask the front desk for her to finally get to speak to her. 2. DH's SA results were faxed over last week, and we still have not received a call with the actual results. I just left a message with the nurse and hope to hear back today.
I feel like a nag, but I also hope they understand this is an anxious time and we would like to know what answers they have. My obgyn's nurse seems like she has her hands full, and while I dont blame her (she covers several docs), I feel like they need to hire someone else to help her out because they are lacking customer service.
I guess my question in all of this is....Is this normal? Or should I switch docs for better service?
Re: Waiting for results (Dr. office - vent & questions)
Wow - lucky girl! That is some nice customer service!!
I think my problem partly is because she is a very well known doc where we live and is recommended frequently. However, now I am wondering why she came so "highly" recommended.
The office also uses an email system, which I have tried with the nurse too, but it has taken her weeks to respond - and one time she never even wrote back. Geez....I feel like I am having to do their job, but following up on everything. But then I seem like "that" patient...
I'm not sure what the "normal" is. At my RE's office any tests that they run in the office (beta, P4, SA, etc) I get a call that afternoon with the results. If they have to send anything out I get a call when they have the results (normally a couple of days).
At my OB's office they never call me with anything. I had to call back to get all of my results & they always tell me the same thing ("well, since they were normal we just mailed them to you").
At my PCP's office they call & tell you if there's a problem but that's it. When DH gets multiple tests run they mail us a letter with all of the results on it, but if the doctor isn't concerned or doesn't want to change dosage for meds we don't get a call.

I live in a pretty small city of 50k people. There are only 2 practices in the entire city, and about 7 doctors between them. I was surprised too that I was so well taken care of. They are always able to get me in when I need to be seen (cd12 u/s and such). In fact my Dr. checked himself to make sure he had a spot for me for another scan on Friday. I think that if you are well versed in what care you want- you have more options. My doctor is not an RE- but is very responsive, honest and does what he can within reason. He is very willing to let me do what I want (Patient led care)- as long as he feels it is safe. I think sometimes a practitioner that is good in the customer service realm is worth a lot.
Girl! I feel ya. I called about my blood test results after weeks of waiting only to get a call back about 10 hours later telling me I needed to make an appointment to talk about my results.
I couldn't get an appointment for a month- ugh! Then, I went today and was told everything was great. I couldn't get that on the phone?!?!?
The thing is... I LOVE my OBGYN, so I deal with it.
I live in a bigger city, so I'd say what you're experiencing is normal. Sorry! I wish I could fix it too!
I have had similar experiences. I realize the nature of OB/GYN practices are different and maybe a little more laid back in terms of response for fertility treatments. My own GYN "lost" my DH SA results and could "remember only ordering 2 and seeing one that was abnormal" but couldn't remember if it was his. Nice..thanks. And we had to wait an additional week for them to get the results again from the lab (which did confirm MFI). This was after I had to demand an u/s for PCOS when they felt I didn't fit the weight criteria. This was an highly recommended Dr. These are some of the reasons we decided to move on in care. Maybe it's bc their priorities are primarily different from an RE...I don't know. It's probably relative to practice and speciality and not a real reflection on how OB's treat IF in general.
I do agree with the PP who said to give feedback. Looking back, I wish I had been honest about our disappointment in terms of bedside manner. Also I am a strong believer that we are consumers and you should find the level of care that fits with your personal style. During IF there are so many times we need to make a call that may feel silly or TMI so I love the fact that my RE's APRN never makes me feel the least bit weird. GL!

Thanks for your thoughts ladies.
I have my HSG scheduled for Thursday. After we get all the results back, I think we are going to take them to an RE. I feel like we might get more attentive care there, and this is their area of speciality (not that I expect it from my obgyn, since that is not their focus).
I think it might be that you need to go to an RE. With my OB GYN, it took 3 calls, faxes and a week to get my medical records (all 4 pages of it) and they charged me for it.
At my RE's the bloodwork comes back the same day, and if the MD is not available a RN meets with you. Although it is a 2 week wait to get into see the MD.
I think that will be our next plan! Glad to hear I am not alone, but it stinks that our Ob's make us go through this!
