My SIS is done have kids and she has the best pump ever. I want to use it for my next babies, but is that gross?

  • I don't think so at all. I would share with my sister. I would buy new parts, which I probably will when I use mine for next baby anyways.

  • Denitely. YOu can buy the replacement parts to make it more sterile. I wish I could have gotten one from someone I trusted and saved myself the money.

  • I would without hesitation, though I'd buy new shields and acces. for it though...if it's a Medela they are super easy to find.

  • Yep.  Not gross at all.
  • I would do it...just change the pumping parts (i.e. new tubing, shields, etc.)

  • I used my BFF's (who is like a sister to me) breast pump... I just got new tubing and new membranes.
  • I used my DH's cousins pump. She is a very clean person and I know her well. Plus she had the 400.00 medela pump! I bought new breastshields and tubing for it b/c using the old ones gives me the heebie jeebies :)..... When I gave it back to her I also bought her a brand new set of tubing and breast shileds as a thank you.

I don't see why using the same motor, which is baisically all I did, is a big deal.

  • I don't see it being gross at all. I EP'd for a year and all of my pumps were used. I would get new parts if it passes through the tubing, but mine didn't so I just sterilzed everything. Waaaaay cheaper getting a used one.
  • Why would that be gross?

I used my BFF's and bought new shields and membranes and sterilized her tubing. I didn't see any issues with it. The milk never touches the tubing or anything anyway. I say go for it.

  • Ok then! Thanks for the input :)

This is exactly what I did too!  Totally use it and save yourself some money!

This.  I did the same thing with SIL's pump and plan to do it again with this baby.

  • Yes, absolutely. Just get new shields/valves and tubing.
  • I don't think it's gross.

However- I EP'd and there were several occasions when milk got into my tubing and one time some water (hoping it was just water) even got sucked through a tube and coughed into the motor.  That was my sweet DH trying to be helpful and trying to get the pump ready for me. Nothing was broken but I waited until that dried before using the pump again.

With that being said, I know from personal experience that water/milk/maybe even mold from tubing can get into the motor area (and the motor is probably the only part you should be sharing with her).  Even with knowing this and seeing it happen I'm not going to say it would stop me from using another's pump, but it's something to think about.  I still plan on using my same PISA that I used with DD.  So I guess I'm just giving you something to be aware of! Good luck :)

  • Yes!  I use my best friends pump now.  She had one that nothing but the air goes in the tubes, so not gross at all.
