Car seat "shelf-life" ?

C&P directly from a good friend's FB status.... but it made me wonder.. how long after the date would you use it?

"

you know how medications have a six month shelf life after the date of expiration? Do car seats follow that same rule too?"

for me, I'd probably just go right out and buy a new one.....

for her, money is tight right now. Thoughts?

Re: Car seat "shelf-life" ?

  • I would look at the use of the seat. Was it a primary seat used all the time stored in the car, etc? If it was I would adhere to the exp. date pretty closely. If it was a second seat not stored in the car maybe at grandma's or something and I was tight on money and needed an extra month or so I wouldn't be to concerned about it as long as I had plans to replace it within a month or two after the exp date.

  • I totally get being tight on money and scrimping, but I can't get on board with using an expired car seat.  This is my child's safety here!  I might scrimp on other things, but not something that might save her life!
