Trying to Get Pregnant

Celiac and TTC

Anyone else on here have Celiac Disease and are TTGP? I was diagnosed back in 2008 and have been following a gluten free diet (With a few slips) since then. I have to say I always heard that eating Gluten affects your fertility so I read up on it and didnt really find a lot of helpful info. They pretty much just said following a gluten free diet shouldnt cause problems. Was just wondering if anyone else is dealing with something like this?

Re: Celiac and TTC

  • I am a lurker but I decided to come out of hiding for this one :) I also have Celiac Disease, diagnosed Jan 2005. Undiagnosed Celiac Disease can cause infertility and cause miscarriages. If you have been gluten free for 2 years this shouldn't be an issue. Here is an article I came across recently:

    HTH, good luck!

From what my doc has told me, we have a harder time absorbing folic acid. So she has me taking more than just a Prenatal Vitamin.

Hi! what else are you taking? I take a Prenatal plus an extra folic acid. When I was first diagnosed I took a B-complex but sad as it is I don't remember exactly why. I have noticed women on here talk about taking B6 and wondered if I should be taking something extra...

  • hmmm my doctor never said anything about extra vitamins or what not and they know we are TTC. Maybe I need to bring it up to them and see what she says. I do have some yummy recipes if you want some just let me know! I have been trying to cook pretty much everything gluten free because both my husband and I follow a gluten free diet. I also want our kids to have a gluten free diet until they are tested. I am not the only one in my family who has Celiac.

  • Hi! Just jumped on here and saw this post. I'm not a diagnosed Celiac, but MH is, so we both eat a GF diet. I think I've got a sensitivity because as soon as I started eating GF, I felt great. Because of this, the plan is to follow a really strict GF diet during pregnancy and  with our future children for the recommended 3 years. Just wanted to say hi and let you know that I'm here too!

  • I was diagnosed in 2004, after being sick for a long time. From what I know as long as you are following your diet for at least 2 years you should be fine. We just decided to TTC and i am taking prenat. vitamin, a B complex, and an extra folic acid everyday. I am also eating a lot more veggies.

How long have you ladies been trying? I am nervouse that we will have a little trouble bc of celiac.
