  Have you checked the base for a parent's night out program?  I am not military, but a friend is, and she said that the base offers a parents night out for free.

  Sadly, we had a bad experience with sittercity. Here are the reasons:

  1. The sitters we could afford on there ($8-9/hr. range) were all pretty young, 16ish-20 year olds. Not saying that they are not able to do a good job, just that we were looking for someone a little older and has more than just 1-2 years of experience.

  2. The ones that were in our age preference wanted $15-$20/hr. Yeah, we can't afford that.

  3. The sitters that had posted up their open availability really did not have that open availability. You would think they would update their schedule info so they don't get calls about times they can't work.

  4. The only one sitter that we finally thought was ok in price and schedule, didn't even show up for the interview. She called me half an hour before she was supposed to come to our house and said that 'her car is being borrowed and is having some car issues anyways'. Totally lame.

  Overall lame experience and DH even asked the website to refund our initial membership fee since we never found anybody nearly qualified or within our budget.

  Unfortunately, DH is a reservist so we are about 50 miles from the nearest military base.  That does sound like an awesome perk, though!
