Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Does your toddler eat better at daycare?

I'm wondering if Tegan will eat better at daycare then she does at home. At home, she knows that I have other items in the pantry, fridge, etc. that she likes more than what I'm currently giving her to eat. I'm wondering if, at daycare, she'll eat different foods because she'll know that it's her only option. What do y'all think?

  • My DS eats better for anyone but me.  At MDO, he consistenly eat everything. At my mom's, he eats like we haven't fed him in a week.  Same thing at my aunts house.

I don't know why he does it, but he does.  Tonight, we had dinner at my uncle's and I could not beleive the amount of food he comsumed.  Even stuff he normally refiuses at home.

  • yep. DD is a really good eater, but at home has gotten way more picky about what she wants and when she wants it. A big part of it is social, and she always eats everything offered at daycare while she picks and chooses at home.

  • DD does not go to daycare but she does go to the child care at the gym for a few hours during the week and she eats a lot better for them than she does me.  We have problems getting her to eat anything at home, but she will eat anything they put in front of her there.  The child care providers figure that it has to do with her following the lead of the other kids.

  • DS doesn't eat well at daycare at all.  Some days he'll only have a yogurt and fruit.  I'm not sure why.  He's just a super picky eater.

  • My DD eats much better at daycare than at home.  I have found that when I offer her 3 'choices' (meat, veggie and something else) on a plate she eats somewhat better at home but not always.  I totally believe that she is a social eater.
  • DD eats so good at daycare. She will eat so many different foods for them (especially meat). I even prepare it the same way daycare does and she won't eat it for me. I think it maybe a social thing. DD see's the other kids eating it, so she eat it. And I think you are right, at home DD knows I have other options for her. I make her try everything we are eating, so I don't just give in and give DD what she wants.
