Is anyone selling this time around?
I'm thinking about selling some stuff, I've got a bunch of stuff that is new with tags that either isn't my style or he outgrew before I put it on him that I was thinking about selling. Just wondering if it is worth it? I don't have a ton of stuff but I definitely have more than 10 pieces of clothing and was thinking about selling our swing since I hated that thing and would rather get a new one if there is ever another babe.
Re: Kids Exchange
Yep, I'm selling. I try to sell at least the minimum at the big area sales, so I can shop early. I think I have quite a bit of clothes to sell. Last year I tagged about $115 worth of stuff, and made about $50. So you won't get rich, but if it's stuff you want to get rid of anyway, it's better than nothing. In my experience, I've usually gotten about 50% of the total price I've tagged (since you only get 2/3 of the tag price, plus the consignor fee, plus some things might not sell until the 50% off day).
It takes a time committment to tag your stuff, but it's easier than selling on CL or eBay, and you'll make more than if you were to sell at Kid to Kid or somewhere (I've never done that, but heard it's not worth it). GL!
I don't think there's any real info on that in the manual, as they expect you to use your own discretion. But here's what I usually do.
For Target/Carters or like items (where most of Holly's clothes are from), in good/like new condition:
Shirts--$2-3
pants/shorts--$2-3
Dresses/complete outfits--$4-6
sleepers/pj's--$3
If it's a nicer brand (GAP, Gymboree, Children's Place, Ralph Lauren, etc), I'll charge a dollar or so more per item. I'll also do the same if the item still has tags on it. If it's a boutique item, I'd maybe add another dollar or two. If I have boutique items, I prefer selling them at the Kids Everywear sale (in Morrisville), because they have separate racks for boutique clothes and you're more likely to get the asking price, from someone who's specifically seeking out boutique brands.
If the item is worn, and not in like-new condition, I will not tag it for more than $2. Try not to think of what you paid for it, or be too sentimental about it. Think of it in terms of what you would be willing to pay for it, as a used item.
Pricing things as I mentioned above has worked for me--I rarely have more than a couple of items to pick up once the sale's over. You can just donate the left overs, but I usually pick up what didn't sell to try again at the next sale.
HTH!
