AW: He said mama!

Well, except it sounds more like mmmbaa mmmbaa! BUT I know he's saying it intentionally because he only says it when he wants me or when he wants to nurse!

It first happened during his 2nd nap today (yay, we're down to 2 naps and he's sleeping 1-2 hrs each now!) and MH was putting him down for a nap and he's doing his usual thing where he just stands up and goofs around instead of sleeping. Finally, I came upstairs with a load of his laundry cuz I usually will fold away his clothes while he's goofing off in the crib before he finally gets tired enough to stop standing and lay down--I figured then MH can go back downstairs cuz I can stay with him while folding his clothes. But when B saw me, his face lit up and he said MMMBAA MMMBAA! And I was like "what?!?" but I was thrilled! Then I changed his diaper and he was just saying it over and over again to me.

MH was skeptical though--he wasn't sure if it was just coincidence since B has been blabbing randomly in different syllables and tones, mixing it up with different sounds for the past week (his first intentional word was "hey" though...which he started saying 3 weeks ago). But I was sure that he was calling for me. Then, I started to leave the room. B started to cry, then I popped my head back in and he stopped crying, smiled and said "mama" again! So we tried it one more time, where I left the room and he would keep calling "mama! mama!" until I came back. Then MH was convinced that he was calling me (I think he originally didn't want to believe it because he wanted B to say "dada" first =P). But then after that, for every nursing session, he would say "mama" to nurse! It totally melted my heart every time!! =)

  • How exciting! Party!!!

This will sound lame, but I'm still not sure if Will and Dash say mama. They've been making the sound for ages, and for the last month or so they only do it when they seem to want comforting (like when they cry, they'll often babble "mamamamamamama" until I cuddle them) so I think maybe they are? But I still can't decide for sure!

  • AW, so cute! No better sound in the world, huh? Well, maybe hearing baby's heartbeat for the first time, but when Libby said "mama" I burst into tears!
  • oh how sweet!!  I can't wait for my girl to call me by name (or at least her name for me!)

  • how exciting! I would have done what you did too, keep peeking around the corner to see if he'd say it again :) Tell your Dh dada will be quickly to follow I'm sure!

Every time Bella says a new word I get super excited, I'm crazy like that. Now every once in awhile she'll look at me and say "mum" and I crack up, it's so funny!

Woohoo! I'm going with this then. Big Smile

  • awwww! So cute :) yay!

I can't wait for K to start saying "mama" on a more regular basis.  Sometimes he'll say something like "ammamama" when he's super cranky and wants me to hold him.  But, I think his first word is going to be "hi" :)
