Well, I delivered via csection on December 23rd. Things did not go as well as I would have liked but in the end, my baby is doing well and is beautiful!
So I went to my regular scheduled appt on the Wed. 22nd. During my internal exam my doctor wanted to make sure my bag of water was still intact b/c I had extra discharge up until that point. So during the exam my bag of water was fully intact and seriously not a second later after she said "I can feel that it is intact" I felt a huge gush! I was no longer intact and I was having a baby today! She sent me home and told me to go to the hospital immediately. My doctor was very apologetic and kept saying how sorry she was to break my water.
So after getting to the hospital and getting checked in I was only dilated to a 3. After several hours of no contractions or dilatation they started pitocin. I was on the pit for hours and still not dilatating and I was having contractions but they mostly felt like the BH I had been having for weeks. By this time it was getting close to midnight and my doctor wanted to shut the pitocin off, let me rest, and start it again at 4am. They said that shutting off the pitocin helps your body to build its own receptors back up. So at 4am we restarted it and still no progress. My doctor finally came in to check me at 7am and when she did I had more of my bag of water that was not broken (which sometimes happens I guess, almost like a second bag is how it was explained to me) and I gushed and gushed and gushed. Seriously not 20 minutes after that I was starting to have serious contractions and was still on the pitocin. 1 hour after that I got my epidural b/c the pain was so intense. Within 2 hours I was almost completely dilated (I started at a 3)!! So I thought things were looking good!
After I was finally complete the nurse wanted me to do some practice pushes b/c baby was still not a +2 and also face up which they say causes it to be more difficult to push baby out. Well, my practice pushes turned into 3 very intense and draining hours of pushing (after zero sleep the night before) and the doctor gave me the choice of the vacuum or csection but she felt that she only had less than a 25% chance of getting her out using the vacuum. We opted for the csection since she felt I would end up there anyway.
Less than half an hour later my baby was in my husbands arms! They had a lot of difficulty getting her out because I had labored for sooo long and she was down in my pelvis pretty far. I was very scared b/c she was not breathing right away but with stimulation she perked up and her first cry sent me to tears!
Sorry this is sooo long! It was a very rough delivery and ultimately my doctor said my pelvis was too small for baby and I would not have delivered vaginally. Violet was 7lbs 4.9 oz and only 17.5 inches long (we are short people). And her head very normal size, so it was just my body that was not going to let it happen!
Thanks for reading if you made it through!
Re: Finally my birth story! Violet Elaine is here!
Yikes! That's crazy. Love that your doc broke your water twice! lol Yeesh! Glad to hear everything worked out for you in the end and you're both healthy and doing well!
I'm SO afraid of having a similar experience! My grandmother and mom both had babies get stuck, I really am not looking forward to possibly laboring for hours, being completely exhausted, only to end up with an emergency C! Sounds like it all worked out well in the end for you though, still, sorry you had to go through all of that!
Congratulations!!!!
This is my worst fear as well! My mother had c-sections with ALL her kids, and we are pretty small-framed too!
OP: Congrats on LO!
