Milk question

DD is a certified milk-a-holic. She has about 8-10oz in the morning, but no more at meals, only water. At night though, she could go through 20oz if we'd let her (and we have by accident - DH refilled one without knowing how much she'd had.) She eats a little during the day, but isn't huge on solids. Should I be lowering this amount at night to encourage her to eat more "food" at her meals? What does your pedi say about amounts?

  • To much milk can cause anemia because I believe the vitamin D keep the body from absorbing the iron. From what I have heard online/ped/friends etc. most people say 16-24 hours a day is the standard amount for kids. The 16-24 oz also includes any other dairy such as yogurt, cheese, etc.

  • We were told 20 oz is ideal.
  • I just read 16-20 ounces is recommended and that there is such a thing as "too much" milk.  So I'd say to encourage more food/less milk.  Not sure if what I read is true though.  It was in Toddler 411.
