Hi All:
Just found out I am expecting # 2 (very excited!) and my first daughter I had out of state, even though we are O.C. natives. I am in Laguna Niguel but work in Irvine, so I'm open to any of the nearby hospitals... I've only been inside Hoag's maternity center, and thought I'd get good and bad experiences before I tour them all.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance ![]()
Re: Hospital recommendations (good and bad!)
I've only heard good things about Hoag.
My experience was at Mission Hospital and I LOVED it. New private room with plasma and marble accents. Sitting area turns into bed for DH. They strongly encourage baby in the room, DH spend the night with mom and baby and breastfeeding. I don't think it would have worked for me if they didn't provide the resources they did. A LC comes everyday to make sure it's going well and every nurse change during your stay they ask to watch and make sure DC is latched and feeding correctly.
I also wanted a hopital with a NICU. In case anything went wrong as least we were in the same hospital. My sister had to wait to be released from her hospital to go visit her DS that was flown to another hospital.
I used saddleback and LOVED it! It was awesome, the nurses were above and beyond wonderful. And I was able to stay in the birthing suite the whole time. It was a wonderful experience and I can't recommend that hospital enough.
That said, I might be looking to move to another hospital as my ob rushes me in and out of appts, and I am sick of it.
Good luck!
I just delivered our DD at Hoag on 9/29 and the experience couldn't have been more pleasant. They do not have a cap on visiting hours or the number or age of visitors. This was important as we have friends and family with children and did not want them to have to stay in the waiting area. They also have free valet during the week.
You get a private room and an ocean view (if you're lucky). There is a padded sitting area that pulls out into a bed for DH. You have the option of you keeping the baby in the room, or using the nursery. They do have a NICU. They are VERY strict about their security procedures when it comes to the baby. This was very comforting to us. The food was surprisingly good. You select what you want to eat from a menu which includes dessert!!
I have to say that due to the constant checking up on either myself or DD, it was difficult to rest. Totally understandable though. After delivery, they strongly recommended that I breastfeed to get my milk to come in. Each nurse on duty made sure feeding and latching were successful.
If you choose to deliver at Hoag, I highly recommend the tour and pre-registration. This made our check-in very quick as I was already at 5 cm!
Congratulations and HTH!
Awesome, thank you all! It sounds like we are all lucky as there are multiple excellent options. We think we may tour afterall;
For those who delivered at Hoag, any OBGYN recommendations? I was hoping to find one that maybe had a local practice but was still affiliated with Hoag.
Thanks again!
What about St. Joseph's in Orange? Anyone deliver there?
I am delivering at Hoag, and my OB is Dr. Gigi Kroll. I really like her, and she came highly recommended by several people, including some of the nurses at Hoag who had her deliver their babies (my mom works there).
