Alabama Babies

Winter babies birthday party - help!

So I'm trying to make final decisions on James' birthday party.  Those of you with winter babies, what have you done for birthday parties? It will be too cold in Feb for an outdoor setting.  Did anyone attempt having it in their home?

He has SO many toys already and I know he'll be getting a lot more from family.  So we want to say that if anyone wants to bring James a gift, to please bring their favorite children's book.  Would you include a card with the invite to express that?

Re: Winter babies birthday party - help!

  • Yep, we've got a February baby too! =(

For his First we did it indoors even though last year it happened to warm up enough to have it outdoors. It's just too much of a risk with the uncertain Alabama weather to have it outside. We're doing it indoors again this year at our house, but will have the kid play area in the garage {thankfully my DH is OCD about keeping it fairly mess-free}.

Also, IMO I'd just simply write "No gifts, thank you" or I've seen: "Your presence is the only present required"

I think it'd be tough to specify that you only want a book if they bring a gift.

  • Allie is a January baby.  We had her first birthday party last year at our church's fellowship hall.  It is large, has plenty of seating, and a kitchen...oh, and it is free!

This year we are doing a much smaller party at our home.

    Allie ~ 01/26/09 ~ 7 lbs, 9 oz ~ 20.75 in. & Amelia ~ 03/16/11 ~ 8 lbs, 1 oz ~ 21 in.

This is exactly what we are doing for Preston.

  • Maybe you could do a book themed party. Ask guests to bring a copy of their favorite childrens book.

  • Jackson is a January baby.  Last year for his first bday, we did a low key "Noah's Ark" theme at home.  This year, we are having it at the Exploreum...it is a science center here in Mobile...like the McWane Center in Bham.

We went to a party for a two year old who did the book-as-a-gift request.  I can't remember exactly how the invite went, but it was a rhyme and at the end it mentioned bringing your favorite book as a gift.  They even included personalized peel and stick labels for you to write on and stick inside the book so the kid would always know who it was form.
