Need some opinions

Sorry I have been MIA for the a while, can't bump from my phone and we have driving from WA to MO to CT to MI back to MO and will head back to WA in a couple days (makes for a long trip when you go to the bathroom every few hours).

Anyway, FI finally decided he could finally handle thinking about names and since we aren't telling any family I wanted some opinions. These won't be traditional names because FI is danish and has a very traditional danish name so we would like to keep that with our LO, however, the name I love I am hesitant to use because it might be too different.

Boy: Dane Alexander   *The name I really prefer is Bent which is FI's grandfathers name, do you think thats too out there?

Girl: Elisabet Marie

So...what do yall think?

Thanks!

Re: Need some opinions

  • I like your choices, though I agree bent is too far out there. He'd here "Get Bent" nearly daily, I think. Tongue Tied It sucks when a family name can't work anymore like that.

  • Love the boys name! Bent is too out there for me. I like the girls name too but is it supposed to have a H on the end or just the T?

  • I really like Dane.  A good friend named her son that. It's unique without being weird.  I don't really care for Bent . . .

    Elisabet is pretty also.

The danish form of Elizabeth has no h on the end. A lot of the other girl names end with e but are pronounced with an A, it can get very confusing.

  • l like Dane.

    Bent just invites teasing.

Elisabet is going to forever be misspelled and mispronounced assuming you stay in the States.

  • I like them both! I even like Bent, but I understand everyone's hesitation to it. I'm assuming that since there isn't an "h" on the end of Elisabet that it's not pronounced Elisabeth.. right? Might be a duh question, but someone mentioned how it will be mispronounced. I understand that it might be misspelled - Elizabet, Elisabette... etc. - but so is the very common name Sara/Sarah. Not a big deal.

Plus, my mother's name is Elizabeth and a name we've considered if we have a girl is Bette. Probably would be a middle name. Still iffy on it.

  • I know a Dane. It's an OK name, his is Dane is a nickname for Dana though.

Elisabet is pretty, although I foresee a lot of Elisabeth pronunciations instead.

I don't really like Bent, it's NMS, but not my kid! :o

  • Boys names as far as traditional danish names go are really out there and the only only two that came close that aren't too weird are Leif (pronounced life) and Gunnar but FI only likes Dane, so I am good with that.

As far as Elisabet goes, I don't worry too much about it being mispronounced, FI's name is routinely misprounced and mine is very normal and always spelled wrong so thats just something you deal with.

    Thanks for all the input

This exactly. Love Dane, but Bent is just asking to be made fun of. As someone with an oddly spelled name myself, I can promise that Elisabet will spend her entire life explaining her name. If you think that's ok, then great, but it is something to think about. I had to give up on people spelling my name right by the time I was 10.
