How long before TTC did you go off the pill? We've decided to start trying in the summer, for real this time We are planning a trip to Hawaii at the end of June. I'd like to not be on my period while we're there of course. How long before should I go off to make sure I'm back on a regular schedule? I haven't been off the pill for about 10 years. I was very regular before if that makes a difference.
Thanks!
Re: When to go off the pill?
I'm in the camp to do it earlier if you're sure about starting to ttc by a certain time. My first cycles off were all really long (over 40 days) and that sucks when you're excited to ttc, and in my case, to start charting too. When I got pregnant, my cycles still weren't what they had been pre-pill. Anyway, when it doesn't work one cycle and you just want to hurry up and get to the next one to try again, it sucks if you are waiting forever to even ovulate.
I've also read that you're more likely to release multiple eggs at a time right after going off, but I don't know if that's true!
I would definitely give it 3 months though. I can't really answer your question because we had a certain ttc date in mind and kept moving it up once I'd gone off!
Don't go off the pill until you are ready to be pregnant.
I went off the pill in December thinking we'd get pregnant sometime later in the year, like in the fall. I had been on bcp for 6 years, I figured it would take time for my body to get back to normal.
Oops. I never even got my first period. I got pregnant with Layna about a week after stopping the pills.
I think this is what happened to me with this pregnancy. I stopped the pill at the end of the pack, had my "period" and then three weeks later, I got my BFP.
With DS, I got off the pill at the end of January and got pregnant after two cycles. I was super regular before the pill and had no problems with my periods after the pill. I think most doctors seems to recommend three months off the pill before actively TTC.

Best advice ever. Even if you're willing to be religous about reliable back up form of birth control like condoms.
