Hello All,
I am trying to find a doula though my first try is having her 4th LO and the second try says she will not support births at Prentice. This concerns me. I would like to stay with my OB, though want my decisions to be respected and for the nurses and doctors to be honest with me about what is going on. Any information would help.
TIA
Re: Anyone deliver naturally at Prentice?
I didn't deliver naturally at Prentice because that's not what I wanted but I did want to chime in and say that a majority of the staff at Prentice was very accommodating. I did have problems with one nurse but I requested she be reassigned and never dealt with her again. Anytime a decision had to be made, they came to me and asked what I wanted and respected that choice. They were always very honest with me. At the end, they told me very matter-of-factly that the baby needed to come out immediately or else risk brain damage (long story behind all the complications I had) and they gave me the options of how to get the baby out and let me chose which one I wanted. I was adamant that I didn't want a c-section so I was beyond grateful that they didn't try to pressure me into one. Many doctors might have not been so kind to me given the situation.
I think a lot of it depends on your OB themselves and how open and honest they are with you and if they will respect your decisions as they are the ones giving you any real information or making decisions for you.
I didn't deliver at Prentice, but I have 2 good friends that did and they both had nothing but positive things to say about it.
GL on your search.
I delivered my son naturally at Prentice in October 2009, and I labored and gave birth to him in a birthing tub. Not all OB practices are supportive of an unmedicated & intervention free birth, so you really need to make sure you are comfortable with the group you have chosen if a natural birth is what you want. I switched OB practices at about 12 week into my pregnancy. I switched to the NMPG midwife group and I was very happy with them.
Also, if you a water birth or tub for laboring in is something you want to do, not all doctors will agree to that either, so I recommend asking ahead of time if your doctor is OK with this. Then when you go into labor and check into Triage you need to tell a Triage nurse that you want an L&D room with the birthing tub.
I have been going to my OBGYN since I moved to Chicago ~4yrs ago. I luckily found a great one and have stuck with her. She is with the Northwestern Women's Group. I see Dr. Murthy & a Nurse Practitioner named Fuller. Now that I am 21 weeks pregnant w/ my 1st I have been rotating through the OB's and they are all wonderful! On my last appt she asked about my delivery preferences and commented that she assumed I wanted a natural delivery and was SUPER supportive of this. She gave me a few recs on natural childbirth classes.
Can't go wrong w/ anyone in this practice.
