...will you start your newborn LO on? I'm not sure where to even start. We've looked at all different kinds and I just keep getting more and more confused. Ughhh can anyone give me any insight?
You realize there are other reasons people don't BF other than not being able to, right?
While I am sure that I'm perfectly able to BF, I am choosing not to. We will be using the Similac sample that we just got and then switching to the Target brand version of Similac.
The hospital gave me Similac Advance samples to give LO when I needed to supplement...She still currently on this and when I'll eventually use the Target brand
While I am PLANNING on BFing (but we all know how our "plans" go...), My doctor mentioned to me that if I do end up needing to supplement with formula, to use a lactose-free formula, because when I was an infant, I had many problems with lactose-intolerance and the chances of LO having the same problems are high.
Not sure if this helps, but just in case you have any dietary issues with soy/lactose, etc, that might help you decide in what kind to use!

I breastfed DD until 8 months last time around and then we switched to Good Start and were really happy with that formula. Last I checked though, there was no generic substitute of it if you're looking for that. My sister is using Enfamil with her LO. I'd talk to the hospital and see what they get LO started on and go with that, particularly if they tolerate it well.
We plan on starting with Enfamil Newborn for the first 3 months (assuming LO tolerates it well), and then switching to regular Enfamil or the generic equivalent at that point.

Take it easy...I'm guessing she worded the title this way to avoid the trolls that would come in and bash her for not BFing. Why take it so personally?
OP - I had major supply issues with DS and had to supplement. I started with Enfamil (as that is what my Ped gave us) but his daycare would supply formula if we were willing to use what they had to offer - which was the Wal Mart/Sam's private label brand. My ped said it would not be good to switch back and forth (figured as much) so I asked him what exactly the difference was and in his opinion, none. They all have to pass certain standards set by the FDA, so one is just as good as the next. You pay more for branded anything - you're paying for national advertising and promotion. DS was exclusively formula fed after 4 weeks and turned out just fine. As a matter of fact he is VERY rarely sick. Not sure one thing has anything to do with the other but that has been our experience.
I plan on trying to BF this LO - because who knows, maybe I'll have better luck this time around. But if I run into the same issues, I will likely follow the same direction I did with DS.
If we have to use formula, I am planning on the Kirkland (Costco) brand - it is so much cheaper and from what I can tell there is no significant difference between it and the brand names.

This! Its actually the same as similac where Sams club formula is the same as enfamil
With DD, we used Good Start per her pedi's recommendation. We had supplemented with Enfamil when I was EPing, but when we moved to full time FF, the Good Start was what we used. She was much less gassy on the Good Start, it's less frothy than Enfamil, doesn't stain quite so badly, and doesn't smell quite so badly, either. If I wind up supplementing or even full time FF this time, we will use Good Start from the onset (assuming this LO doesn't have any dietary restrictions we need to worry about.)

After researching we planned to use Good Start if we needed to, supposed to be the closest to breastmilk.
