Hello I am currently in my 2nd trimester and have been wondering the following:
How long after your due date were you able to go before being induced?
If you had a c-section and tried to deliver vaginally first, how long were you able to have labor before the doctor said you needed a c-section?
If you delivered vaginally and med free, how large was your baby?
Any info will be greatly appreciated! And Congrats on the newest additions to your lives!!!
Re: 3 L&D questions:
I asked my dr to induce me a week before my due date and he did.
My DD was 6lbs 13 oz and I went med free. I was in active labor for about 6 hours. This was my 2nd child my son is 11 yrs old.
I had a somewhat unusual L&D, but since everyone's is different, I'll throw in my answers...
I was scheduled to be induced at 40 weeks, 5 days but ended up going into labor THAT day (go figure!)
Although my BP/weight/other vital signs were very healthy and normal throughout my pregnancy, even at my 40 week appointment, when we got to the hospital my BP was VERY high. My DH and I thought it was anxiety but it wouldn't go down so I had to start a BP medication (I can't think of the name) that made me stuck in bed. I was also started on a Pitosin drip to try to hurry labor along. (The combination of stronger contractions from the Pit and being basically immobile definitly wasn't ideal...eventually I did take an epidural which helped). Anyway, after being in labor like that for 24 hours my Dr. was concerned that I wasn't progressing fast enough for my and the baby's well-being.I was only 5 centimeters at that point and my BP was still elevated. That was when we (the Dr., my DH, and I) decided to go for the c-section.
It was scary--I wont lie, but after all that I have to be thankful for modern medicine. I went into the whole thing with the attitude that we'd just roll with it and take things as they come, but I never expected QUITE so much to be thrown at us. But now we're home, I have a beautiful, 11-day-old baby boy and I am well on my way back to normal!!
Well...a whole NEW normal! ;p
1. I wasn't able to go over my due date, we were going to induce at 39 weeks 1 day. But the day we were going to induce DS decided to start the whole process on his own.
2. I went in to the hospital at 11:30am, labored until 4:30pm. Had a C-Section because it turned out DS was sunny side up, and his head was to big to fit through. We tried the Vacuum and the Forceps before the decision to do C-Section became an option.
1. We were going to talk about induction at my 41 week appointment, but LO came on his own the day before.
2. I delivered vaginally, but we briefly discussed a C-section when I stalled at 4cm for a while. Luckily, some Pitocin helped.
3. The epidural was my best friend. I enjoyed and was present for my entire labor and was very happy. Can't help you out here!
1. My doc said I could go up to 42 weeks if everything looked good, but I went into labor on my due date and had my DD the next morning.
2. I didn't have a c-section. I was in early labor for a long time. I had my daughter 14 hours after my water broke, and I had about 12 hours of active labor.
3. I didn't go completely med-free; I had a shot of Lidocaine right before crowning, but I had no narcotics or epi. My DD was 9lbs 0oz.
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

1. My Dr would have allowed me to go 4-5 days past my due date (said that was his typical plan). However he allowed us to induce at 39w (we ended up though with an appointment for 39w 3d) due to LO's est weight and serious hip pain for me.
2. We tried to labor first, tried pit for 24 hours. I had been 1.5cm and 50% since 35 weeks, only got to maybe a 2cm and still 50% and having serious pain in my hips and back when DR offered a C-Section as he thought I wasn't going to change anytime soon. Would have allowed me to labor for another 2 days (unless my water broke).
3. Had a section...so we got a spinal.
My Dr would have let me go a week late but I was four days early.
I went med-free and baby was 8lbs 3oz. Her head is still a little pointed lol I got a second degree tear that needed a decent amt of stitching. It is just now feeling better.
my doc allowed me to be induced a week early actually ( i figured this was probably ok as i was 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced when i went in and i hadn't felt any contractions at that point) we also knew the exact date of conception since we did ivf
since i was induced i had meds, they gave me some sleeping meds the night before and when i woke up i was 10 cm dilated and ready to push lol...
IVF #1 1/10-transfered 2 blasts- DS born 10/2010
March 2015- Chemical pg
1/25/16- BFP Beta1 12dpo = 17, Beta 2 14 dpo = 28.. resulted in one beautiful boy born 9/21/16
Now I'm a stay at home loving life and pursuing my love of photography!!!
1- 41 weeks and 6 days was my scheduled induction but 42 was the max w/ my midwives. I went on my own that day w/out induction.
2- n/a
3- my ds was 10lbs 6 oz and my dd was 9lbs 10oz both no drugs
I was induced one week after my due date. I ended up having a c-section after laboring for 13 hours. It was partly my descion and my doctor backed me up. I hadn't had any progress in 6 hours with pictocin being upped every half hour. I never got past 4 cm and 75% effacement.
2 years of TTC, Seeing RE Feb 09, 2 medicated TI cycles - BFNs, 3 medicated IUIs - BFNs, back to medicated TI cycles until IVF approval, IVF approved in March 2010. BFP on last medicated TI cycle.
I went 5 days past my due date, though my doc said we could have waited another few days, but she did not recommend going past 41 weeks.
I went in for cervical ripening one evening, and my water broke at 8 am on its own, labored all day and began pushing at 5 pm. At 7:30 there was very little progress and they discovered my baby was facing up (sunny side up) and that he could not get past my pelvis. The doctor tried the vacuum to help with vaginal delivery, but we decided on a csection together when that failed to work. She would have let me push a little more had I been very adamant about a vaginal delivery, but I was over it and agreed that csection was for me.
Turned out he was only 6 pounds 10 oz, and I was medicated- HTH
How long after your due date were you able to go before being induced?
I had to be induced 2w early because I had no AF left. OB was willing to let me go about 1 week past if I made it that long!
If you had a c-section and tried to deliver vaginally first, how long were you able to have labor before the doctor said you needed a c-section?
I did not have a c-section
If you delivered vaginally and med free, how large was your baby?
6 pounds, 3 oz. I had an epidural though.

Hey Jaimie, our babies are date twins!
1. Our midwife would allow us to 42 weeks. I think that's good since on average, first time mom's are about 8 days late.
2. N/A. Labor from first contraction to birth was a little less than 3 hours, 8 days early. Apparently my placenta was starting to detach, so baby hit her ejector button.
3. I had no choice even if I wanted drugs. 6lbs, 6oz all natural. 2nd degree tear (light bulb head!) It was so fast they didn't even get to start an IV. She also ended up having the cord wrapped twice.
I had 2 very different labors. My DD was easy, I was induced 9 days late, came in 4cm and 70% effaced and with pushing had her in 6hrs. No meds and she was 7lbs 6oz 21 inchest long. They broke my water 4 hrs after starting my pitocin and never had to up it after that.
DS whom was just born was a nightmare. My dr prob would have let me go to 42 wks if I wanted but I didnt. She induced me at 41wks to the day, I went in on my own with inconsistent contractions and they admitted me to be induced. I was 4cm dilated almost all day. I was in labor at home from 1am then got to hosp 4am and was started on pit by 8:30am. They broke my water at 4:45pm bc I wasnt progressing and finally got to 6cm and my pit was up to 23 then I asked for epi at 6:00pm and that was enough to drop him into birth canal and dilate me real fast. I pushed for 20min and he was born vaginally. 7lbs 8oz and 21.5 inches long. He was in distress and had a perfect knot in his cord and we got lucky that it couldnt pull too tight, he also had it around his neck, so im sure if I didn't progress after Epi it would have been a c section.
1. My OB would let you go one week after your due date. I was induced one day after mine because of being on blood thinners.
2. Had a vaginal delivery. E was born 11 hours after start of induction.
3. Delivered vaginally, got an epidural (the best thing ever!), she was 6 lbs 2 oz!
Good Luck!
How long after your due date were you able to go before being induced?
Wasn't induced with either pg - I went into labor at 41w1d with DS1, 41 or 42 weeks with DS2 (I had a fuzzy due date and hands-off MW).
If you had a c-section and tried to deliver vaginally first, how long were you able to have labor before the doctor said you needed a c-section?
With DS1, I pushed for 4+ hours. I think I was in active labor for about 16 hours?
If you delivered vaginally and med free, how large was your baby?
Just had a VBAC with DS2, he was 10lb 10 oz (2+ lbs more than DS1). It's all about positioning - check out spinningbabies.com
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
Question 3 is the only one I can answer.
My water broke at 2 am, they pushed Pit at 6 am and accel'd at 6 x 6 (6 mL every 6 minutes- I think my doc was trying to force me into a c-section, but that's another story!).
I had Nubain at 9 (the Pit made the contrax too intense). It wore off at 11:00. I asked for an epi around 11:40, but when they checked me I was already 9.5 cm, so I decided I could finish. I started pushing shortly thereafter, pushed three times and she was out at 12:22. She was 8 pounds 5 ounces (the growth U/S predicted 8 pounds 11 ounces).
I went in with an open mind about meds, thinking that my body was meant to do what I needed to do, so I would just see how far I could get and kind of take it as it came.
Good luck!!
How long after your due date were you able to go before being induced? 1 week. I was VBAC though. First timers were allowed 2 weeks at my practice.
If you had a c-section and tried to deliver vaginally first, how long were you able to have labor before the doctor said you needed a c-section? I was in labour 28 hours and only got to 4cm. At that point, DD's heartrate kept dipping and then disappearing (even after an internal monitor was placed on her and my MW told me we needed to go for an emerg c/s.
I went 41 wks 4 days. My midwife allows you to go to 42 weeks (if everything is looking good) and then you have to be induced.
I delivered her vaginally and unmedicated. She was 7 lbs 12oz.
I was incuded at 40 weeks and 4 days. My doc offered to let me wait a week longer but at that point I just wanted to meet my LO so I chose to go ahead with the induction.
I *almost* had a c-section, but thankfully didn't. After 12 hours of labor a nurse checked me and said I was at 7cm. My doctor said she was going to have to perform a c-section because my baby's heart rate was dropping during contractions. Fortunately before the anesthesiologist showed up with the epidural, I felt the urge to push, so the doc checked and I was at 10. She allowed me to try pushing but warned me that if it wasn't super-fast going she was still going to cut him out. Landon was born after only 10 minutes of pushing, and it turns out the cord was around his neck.
I didn't go completely med-free, I had 2 doses of Stadol (1mg each) because of back labor. I think I could have done it med-free if it hadn't been for that. The Stadol didn't help much anyway, just made me incredibly drowsy for about half an hour then I would wake up in terrible pain again. Landon was 7lb 7oz, but I don't really think the baby's size has much to do with going med-free. The contractions were definitely the worst part, it was actually a relief to be able to push and yeah I could feel him coming out but it wasn't painful, more of a pressure. I didn't even feel it when the doctor gave me an episiotomy so she could get to the cord. Trust me, if you make it to 10cm without meds it won't matter how big your baby is.
At 40 weeks 2 days I was induced due to high blood pressure (it had been creeping up for a few weeks), protein in urine, and elevated liver enzymes
I labored for 25 hours, pushed a few times, and LO's heart rate dropped with every push so it was time for a C-section. Thank you Jesus that #2 will be a scheduled C-section and I can avoid the back labor. Don't fear the section.
LO was 8lb 0.7oz.
How long after your due date were you able to go before being induced? My doctor would let me go a week past my due date. We scheduled my induction at my 40 week appointment for a week later, but my water broke on its own 2 days later.
If you had a c-section and tried to deliver vaginally first, how long were you able to have labor before the doctor said you needed a c-section? I was in labor for 30 hours. When I got to the hospital, I was barely dilated to 1 cm. I was given cytotec first, then pitocin. 30 hours later, I was still only dilated to 4 cm, and got a fever, so that was the end.
If you delivered vaginally and med free, how large was your baby? n/a
Wowie Zowie Mommas! Thank you SO much for all the information (and L&D vocabulary to research:). Your babies are all so super cute! I'm glad that in the end all of you were happy with your LOs in your arms, no matter how it happened!
Thanks again!
