Carrying twins, when did you start showing? Nausea/vomiting stop?

I am 13 weeks tomorrow, N/V ever since 5-6weeks. This has GOT TO stop soon, it's wearing me down. When did it stop for you? Also, when did you start looking noticeably pregnant? Personally, I think I look pregnant already. I feel like everything I read (everywhere), doesnt address twin pregnancies, and suggestions for good resources (websites, books, etc..) would also be appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Carrying twins, when did you start showing? Nausea/vomiting stop?

  • Def. get Dr. Luke's book "Expecting Twins, Triplets, and Quads. It is a very good resource.  I has N/V until about 16 weeks but some people have it the whole time and others not at all, so there really is no way to know.  Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy.

  • At 13 weeks my OB's put me on Zofran for the vomitting. I had gone in for a check up and was so dehydrated my BP was up. It took them almost 90 min. and 5 different people trying before they could get an IV line in me to give me fluids. At that point my docs said enough was enough and gave me Zofran. It took the edge off but didn't make it go away completely. If you do go on it, make sure you take a stool softner and use fiber powder in water like Benefiber, it causes major constipation.

To answer your question my n/v lasted until 16w3d, I just woke up that morning and didn't need to take my Zofran and didn't have to take it again through my pregnancy. In a picture I had taken at 11 weeks, you can make out a baby bump under my shirt. But I didn't have strangers actually congratulate me (strangers noticed) until I was 16 weeks PG. By 18 weeks it was quite obvious I was pregnant, I went to a military ball at 18 weeks and I looked quite pregnant.

  • I'm carrying fraternal twins and am 11 wks, sick.as.hell.  I am on Zofran and still am nauseous but I don't vomit very often.  Some days maybe 1 or 2 times.  I'd hate to see what I feel like w/o it.  Just call and ask for it, that's all I did.  I also take 3 fiber supplement pills and 3 colace stool softeners a day (2 at night 1 in afternoon) to help keep things moving.  So far I've avoided major constipation. GL, I hope it goes away for both of us soon!

  • My family and I noticed a bump on me at 12 weeks (I had a relatively slim tummy to start with) and started wearing mat pants about a week or two after.

My n/v started week 4 and lasted until week 15 when I had to take zofran (that sometimes didn't help me) but the occasional n/v still occurred throught 2tri.  Also taking your prenatal vit at night or switching to a diff kind can helpwith that and constipation.  I am still taking the flinstone gummies bc of it!  (just have to make sure to get enough folic acid in them)

I and my doc do not rec the Dr. Luke book.  For one they tell you to gain 24lbs by week 24.  I am at week 30 and I have just now gained 20 lbs and my babies are doing great!  JMO

  • I started showing at 15w, and for me, the vomiting never stopped. I threw up twice in the OR at 37w. I liked "Ready or not, here we come"- it was an enjoyable read.

  • I am 20 weeks today and still not showing. I was plus size to begin with, so I'm sure that is affecting how I carry my bump.  I do have a bump and my belly is heavy, but strangers can't tell that I am pg yet.

I am still sick and suffering wicked heartburn.  I finally gave in last week and started taking Zofran.  I had been taking Zantac (OTC) and that helped with the heartburn, but not the queasiness.  I hope this doesn't continue the whole pg.

If you are thinking of breastfeeding, I liked a book called "Mothering Multiples".  Its by La Leche League, so it can be "extreme" at times (in my opinion).  However the information is good.

I read Dr. Luke's book and liked it.  Lots of good info, but the book makes me feel like such a failure because I've only gained 4 lbs so far and her book says to gain about 20 lbs by 20 weeks (for my body size and pre-pg weight).

  • I didn't start looking pg until about 15 weeks.  But it was also my second pregnancy.  Ditto the book by Dr. Barbara Luke.  But honestly I didn't treat this pregnancy much different than my first one (eating wise).  I actually gained less weight with this pregnancy then I did with my first and my girls were 7 and 6.10lbs at 38 weeks 1 day.

As for the morning sickness, for me it lasted the ENTIRE pregnancy!  Yup, it started before I even knew I was pg and lasted until the day I had the girls.  Yes, I threw up the morning I had my c/s.  I begged them for zofran as soon as they admitted me!  Zofran was my best friend this pregnancy and I took it 2x a day the entire time.  Some days were better than others but I threw up at least twice a week the whole time.  It sucked, but it was worth my two little girls.

  • Dr. Lukes book is a good book to read for you!  You dont have to take EVERY thing it says to heart.....I dont listen to the gaining weight portion.  It just sounds excessive to me.  But the rest of the info on what to expect, breastfeeding, What to eat, and much more is awesome to have!  I started wearing maternity pants to work by about 10 weeks, people were really noticing at 12-13 weeks, and sickness till 12-13 weeks.  I think Im just a fast grower, short torso and fairly thin beforehand.  I am now almost 28 weeks and measuring at 36-37 weeks!

The book for sure, but I also like this website:

    Good luck!!!

  • I didn't look pregnant until about 18ish weeks. I never had any nausea or vomitting. Sorry!

  • I was sick until week 16 for both of my twin pregnancies.  This time was more severe, with vomiting on top of nausea.  I was prescribed Zofran and took it as needed... I tried not to take it often though.

To myself, I was noticeably PG around 11w.  I know this sounds early, but my husband, close family and myself could all tell.  I'd say that it was noticeable to others around week 14 or 15.

Congrats!  Hope you feel better soon.

  • I'm 25w tomorrow and my m/s JUST stopped a couple weeks ago, maybe around 22w.  It started at 5w.  It was rough!  I hear it can come back in the third tri, so I'm keeping zofran around for that!  I also take my prenatals at night to keep them down.  I did all my throwing up during the day, never at night, so that seemed to be the time my m/s calmed.  Zofran did work for me a bit.  I was still nauseated all day, but less vomiting.  Without it, I would have been in the bathroom all.day.long.

I started to show around 18ish weeks, but people didn't start commenting/noticing until 22-23 weeks.  I was a bit fluffy in the belly area prior to pregnancy, so that may be why I showed a bit later.

  • N/V started at 5w0d, ended at 6w0d.  I "popped" (stranger comments) around 16w.
  • I started the N/V at 7 weeks, and it stopped 14wks 3 days. I went from all day Nausea and vomitting 10-13 times a day to suddenly nothing at all. So hang in there. I was on Diclictan(sp) as well without it I couldn't even get out of bed and te only think I could keep done was dry cheerios.

I started showing at about 16weeks

I never really found anything to helpful as far as books just talking to a lot of other mothers of twins.

  • I'm currently at 20 weeks and the N/V started getting better right around 15 weeks. What helped me the most was grating fresh ginger and mixing it with honey, lemon(I couldn't always stand the lemon) juice and hot water and peppermint tea worked wonders as well. I still can't eat heavy foods(red meats, bread, beans) after 5 or I'll get heartburn. Also, stay hydrated!!! It's so hard, but so important when you're throwing up all the time.

And something to be aware of...After I started feeling better I was having dizzy spells and they found out I was anemic. This was because I hadn't been able to keep my prenatal vitamins or any iron-rich foods down for the first 3 months. So, if you're still feeling sick after 14-15 weeks you may be deficient in something.

I started noticing that my clothes were fitting weird around 12 weeks, but it wasn't until 18 weeks or so that my friends and family started noticing.

    Hope this helps:)

  • Nausea started at 6w4d and ended sometime in the 14-15th week. Came back at the very end when the heartburn got WAY out of hand.  I didn't start showing until 18 weeks.  Was overweight to start with.  Hope you have a H&H pregnancy and start feeling better soon!

  • I can't quite remember when I started showing but 13 weeks stands out in my mind for some reason.  I think that's when people started noticing a belly, but I think around 16 weeks I was definitely noticably pregnant.

I had n/v starting in the middle of my 5th week, and it lasted until week 22.  I was on zofran, which helped.

Good luck, I hope you can find some relief, and a H&H pg to you!

  • I started looking pregnant to strangers at about 18w. I had rare nausea just a wave or two, but nothing serious. Vomited the week I found out I was pg, but never again so I feel very fortunate! I do have bad heartburn daily, I was taking 20mg pepcid when I started feeling the heartburn coming on, but my dr said to take 40mg pepcid daily in the AM before I feel any, and that has made a world of difference! I haven't had it since I started taking it every morning.

  • I was exclusively in maternity pants by 13 weeks, but a lot of people around me still hadn't noticed the growing bump. (I didn't know I was having twins at that point - just thought it was due to being my second pregnancy.)

My morning sickness went away around 22 weeks, within days of starting the high-protein diet my MFM recommended to help the babies grow better. I don't think it was a coincidence -- the m/s still comes back occasionally when I am hungry or have low blood sugar.

  • Fortunately the nausea has just started to calm down for me.  I haven't had vomiting, but have certainly felt really sick.  I'm hoping it's going away for good.

I'm definitely not "showing" yet, but I did switch into maternity pants.  I'm too thick around the middle to get into my regular pants.  FWIW, I'm very tall and long-waisted, but am (or at least was) very thin with a flat stomach.
