Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

I got hit so hard last night

I actually saw stars and heard ringing.  I was holding Jackson and he did his typical arch his back and throw his head back thing when he is perturbed... only he threw his enormous (above 97th%) head with all his might directly into my ear.  I was already on the floor, but I screamed and dropped him down.

Worse than the pain was that my first inclination was to hit him.  I absolutely did not lay a hand on him.  But honestly if I get hit, without thinking, my defenses go up in a split second reaction, as most people's would.. I had to consciously think "wait it was the baby, don't hit him".  Made me feel bad, on top of the pain.

Annnd it hurt to sleep on my ear the entire night and it is still throbbing now :(

No.  Should I be?  We haven't started any sort of formal discipline yet.  I thought 14 months was a little young.  Maybe we should though.. he doesn't listen to the word "no".  He laughs in my face and continues doing what he was doing.

  • Sounds like he's ready IMHO.

We do a toddlerized Supernanny Timeout, where he will sit in the PNP.  He gets two warnings before he's placed in it.

This.  DS is a little older than your lo, but I have been doing this for a couple of months now as well.  I think it helps. I also try my hardest to maintain the same firm tone in my voice when saying "No" and a quick explanation. Of course...there are those moments when they smirk at you, or just make the cutest little face...then all bets are off!  Hope you start feeling better today.  Good luck!

  • I got kicked in the nose two weeks ago so hard I heard a crack and thought for sure it was broken.  Lucky though, it just hurt for 2 days and throbbed like a sonofa.

Then I got headbutted a few days ago in the nose.  Again.  Tears instantly came to my eyes and stars, birdies... the whole bit again.

We should be walking around in full body armor with headgear.  If there were bones in the top of my ear, they would surely be broken right now.
