MH and I just joined tonight and it seemed like they had a really great package and we were impressed. We are leaving our current gym because it's further from home and we didn't use it much.
However, I get home and did some research and many negatives have been posted about this company. By state law, we have three business days to cancel, so I'm wondering now if we should.
We have looked at many gyms and this seemed to be the best for the best price, so just wondering if anyone has been a member or knows of anyone that is that isn't happy.
TIA!
Re: Anyone a member of LA Fitness?
I've been a member for over 2 years now and I love it. I've never had a problem with them. They are very clean and the machines are always up to date.
I also have a trainer 1x a week and I like that too, he keeps me motivated. The kids klub very club to club. We have been to several since we travel so much so I have a membership that is good at all of them. They are great with my kids.
I really like taking the classes as well and the levels are varied so you don't feel like you have to keep up with the harder ones.
I'm curious, what were people saying about it? I'm too lazy to look it up.
ETA: Did you sign a contract that holds you to a certain amount of time? I have month to month and can cancel anytime. You could try it for a few months and see how you like it if that's the case.
My DH is a member and he likes it. He goes to the one across the street from his office at lunch. He never has a problem getting on machines at that time of day and the facility is new so it's clean and the equipment is good. It also has all the amenities. I have thought about adding the family on to his membership but the nearest one to our house is 30-40 minutes away so I know I wouldn't use it as much as I think. As it is, when DH is home on vacation, he will get a day pass for me and we will go together. The one we go to is also new (not the one near his office) and I have been really impressed with it. I've taken a couple of classes there and I've really liked the formats and the instructors--they seem knowledgible.
As for whether you cancel this membership, think about how you would use it. Chain fitness centers do a great job of offering classes and facilities to those who are there mainly for working out. I'm really not too sure how they do as far as offering family activities. I have noticed that the two private athletic clubs in our area do a much better job of offering activities for the whole family, such as mother-child zumba classes, swim classes, etc. With the economy the way it is, many private athletic clubs are waiving the initiation fees and the monthly cost is not that far out of line compared to the chains. If you haven't looked into that type of club, you might want to look into it over the next 2 days.
