OMG - my nephew's "mom"

My nephew's womb-donor (well, it fits better than "mom" in decribing her) is in jail on $150,000 bond for assault and domestic battery. How is it that people like this can get KU just by sneezing, when people who deserve take home babies can't get them to stick?? This universe is so unfair. And how do you tell a 6 year old, "sorry kid, you aren't going to be seeing your mom for awhile....she stabbed her boyfriend....."

I wish I could find the post that described the universe and the law of evolution. I don't want to steal any thunder, but they said that in order to continue evolution, nature did what was easier, not what made sense. So by that rationale, we should all quit our jobs, apply for section 8 housing, buy alcohol and cigarettes on our welfare benefits and go to jail at least once a month. We would certainly not have any trouble making sticky babies! I really feel sorry for your nephew and I will send out prayers for him tonight!

Thanks ladies. I didn't want to unload here, but I am stressed about this newest 'development' and just upset at the unfairness of it all. I hope you ladies forgive me for venting here. My nephew sort of "floats around" and has no permanant home. His address is my address, for continuity purposes in school, and he is here much of the time, which I think helps with stability, but it is really hard - on him and on my family. He is also with his grandmothers (on both sides), and, occasionally, his dad (my brother), who tries, but is rather clueless, and is not capable of doing it himself. My brother lives in a one bedroom apartment with his girlfriend, and, wisely, knew that it would not be smart to bring a kid like my nephew into that situation when it may not be permanant. My nephew is on the autistic spectrum - he is high functioning, but he is not "normal" by any stretch of the imagination. I am sure that a lot of his abnormalities, though, are caused by what he has seen and heard in his young life.....He says and does some downright creepy (sometimes scary) things. Whenever I plan on doing anything 'family-oriented,' I just plan on including him, too, though, because he needs it. His mom claims she loves him, but really, she only got KU with him him to try to hang on to my brother, and when that didn't work, she started using him as a pawn. This is the girl who has had so many abortions, she would make the devil blush. The more I hear about it (and feel powerless to protect my nephew from her machinations - he is no longer in her 'clutches' - but she still talks to him and has occasional visitation) -- the more I just want to scream at the unfairness of it all. I hate saying this, but there are days I wish she would just disappear so that she can't hurt this little kid anymore.....

That is so sad for that little boy. My sister does foster care, so I see how much that can affect them. I hope whoever takes care of him shows him a lot of love.

I'm so impressed with all you're doing for your nephew. Consistency and a sense of beloning are both so important and that is what you're doing your best to give. As a pediatrician I'm reminded of all of this unfairness too awful. It makes my heart break... just know you're doing all you can and thats A LOT. ((HUGS))
